    8n bogging down under load

    Good chance that it's running lean after the carb rebuild. When bogging down give it some choke and see if it straightens out. If so, adjust your main jet accordingly and you should be good to go.

    Todd, While the most likely candidate is the head gasket a cracked block will also put oil in the coolant. That was my problem, I had oil an inch thick on top of the coolant in the radiator. Flush the radiator REAL good and if you're still getting oil in it, it may be time for a look inside...

    The sleeve wasn't cracked but the block was. It would be wise for you to do what the other guys suggested with the compression test and check the head first to rule out a head gasket issue. (Less expensive of course).

    Matt, your symptoms are the EXACT same symptoms I had with my 8N before rebuilding. There was about a half inch to inch of oil in the top of the radiator. I drained it and flushed and it showed up again. There never was water in the oil either. I ended up having two cracks in cylinder two.

    It is a press fit. When I rebuilt mine, I just set it on top of a vise with shaft between the jaws and gear resting on top. I used a punch to give the press end of the shaft a few delicate yet forceful wacks and it popped out. I used the bench vice to repress when I was ready to put it back...

    Gap is good (0.025) but what is "at the primary of the coil". I do have 6 volts going into the coil, is that what you mean?

    I checked continuities and points are fine. No grounding etc. How do you check condenser? Maybe this is a dumb question but even if condenser is not good wouldn't I still have power out of the coil? I guess I thought that the condenser was downhill, so to speak, from the coil. But then again...

    The control rod is bend back slightly so I will straighten that first. Maybe I'll set the cover back on there after doing that and see how it works out. How would I go about building up the cam again since that is a cast piece? Putting some brass on it wouldn't do much good since it is too soft...
