    Carb Dip

Been using commecial plumbers drain cleaner for 8 years and it works amazingly well. Guess EPA hasn"t tamed that stuff down yet. Go figure. Only takes 15/20 minutes and works well. Costs $8 a gallon at True Value.

    plow parts

I have a new pair of shares for a model 156 - 14-inch plow that I'd cheerfully swap for an unbent, true tail wheel. Dave Erb New Holland, PA

    Exhaust manifold nust and clearance

You"re not the first guy to get snagged with this issue. There isn"t much space around the nuts on the after-market manifolds. I have had some that needed to be relieved with a die grinder before a socket would go on the nuts. Get new studs from NAPA - you may need longer ones than the...

    8N Grillle Question

Finhally did what most of you suggested - dry fit it to the hood with the doglegs bolted in place and a bungie to keep the pins in the holes while I fit it to the hood. Good thing I did this, too because everything needed major BFH-type adjustment. Now I"m confidenr it"ll go together properly...

    8N Grillle Question

My sheet metal is all finished and in the paint shop as I write this. I'd surely like to be able to get the hood and grille to fit like they should. Every 8N grille I have ever worked with was smacked somewhere on the lower paner, below the vertical bars. When this happens, these things tend to...

    Manifold paint

Rustoleum makes a Barbecue Grille paint they advertise as being safe to 2000 deg. F. Works just fine for me, and it's available in most hardware stores. JMHO Good Luck Dave Erb New Holland, PA

    paint for 8N

I always use four-inch foam rollers on the red stuff. Lowes carries thenm in a ten-pack. If the shop temp is high enough, it will flow out quite well, BUT you most use a good grade pf primer underneath for good adhesion and long life. I use U-Tech epoxy primer because we have a good dealer...

    1 wire 6v gen

If you were to install an alternator-size pulley on a d.c. generator, the armature would spin so fast that centrifugal force would cause the segments to dislodge. Alternator rotors have only one wire inside them and have pole shoe-fingers surrounding this wire coil, so that they are made to...

3 point not lifting heavy objects

How do you check for hydraulic leaks on an 8N with a Howard tranny?

    8N Grilles

I bought a grille for my 8N from sunny California. When I unpacked it, it turned out to be a very nice straight original looking 9-2N style. Other than the spring-loaded retainer pins in the top corners, are there any substantial differences between this and an 8N grille? Thanks Dave Erb New...

best 6-volt battery for the money

The Deka battery plant is just thirty miles north of my home twenty - North Penn Mfg. Co. Man at the counter there sez they make more than six MILLION batteries each year. I go there for all my batteries and buy their seconds - cosmetic blems - with a nice guarantee. Like bruce, I have come to...

    fuel tank fitting

Bruce is right - thread sealers like Permatex will work well. Aloso you might try teflon thread tape. This works well on MPT threads. Some folks think this should not be used with gasoline. This prohibition stems from electric fuel pump manufacturers asking that it not be used on the suction...

    Alternator shaft speed/ pulley size

Get rid of that old generator pulley. While it weill fit the shaft, it is not sized properly for alternator output. It's your problem. It is too large a duanmeter and youy alternator rotor will not turn fast enough. I use a 3-inch pulley on my own, and it works just peachy. Make sure you buy a...

    Tire Checking

On a similar topic, have any of you tried the tire paint from Miller Tire? It mixes with water and looks absolutely great - nothing at all like the tire paint used car dealers used to slather on their stuff. I like it, but it does NOT fill the cracks and checks. Never heard of Sikalex. What is...

    Stabilizer bar bracket question?

JEKI, The lower brackets you posted pictues of were originally for a Dearborn 3-point mower. This mower had a long spring and bracket on one side that used those brackets. I grew up with one of these on our farm, as a kid, and remember hooking those up very well. Dave Erb New Hollandk PA
