    Help with’74 CAT D5

My D5 is different, it has the decelerator clutch up at the handle. I got the linkage out and it is shot. Anybody have a good source for old Cat parts? Not sure my local Cat dealer can get one.

    Help with’74 CAT D5

CAT D5 dozer 1974 model. Need help with decelerator pedal. Doesn’t return after it is pressed. Should return to the throttle setting. I’m guessing there’s a spring return somewhere but I’ve taken off all the floor plates traced the mechanism all the way and can’t see any kind of return spring...

    1974 D5 Crawler Problem

Thanks for the input. I'm hoping it's something external and not the final drive. The local service guy I use called back and says he'll be up this way next week and will come by and look at it. If it's the final drive I'll probably work it till it dies and sell it for scrap. Its been a good...

    1974 D5 Crawler Problem

The left track on my 1974 D5 has started "chattering" and and you can actually see it happening if you watch it while going forward. It's intermittent and Usually happens when moving forward on a downhill Slope. Its worse when the track gets loose. If I tighten that track it cuts down on it...

IH 1300 Mower Questions on Using

Blades are sharp and the guards are in good shape with square cutting edges but everything is rusted because this mower hadn't been used much and must have set outside. My grandfather used to keep a coffee can of used motor oil with a paint brush in it and oiled the whole blade every time he...

IH 1300 Mower Questions on Using

I bought an old IH 1300 mower with 9 foot bar. Went through it replacing grease zerks and lubricating everything. Set it up on my Kubota M8200 and adjusted everything according to the operators manual. Bought it for mowing pond dam and around my pond banks. Manual says it will cut at most any...

Old Cat D5 Steeering Brake Problem

Another thing - The right brake pedal goes all the way down till it hits the wall below the steering clutch. The left will adjust and I have it adjusted to the spec in the manual. That tells me something is broken or loose in the right linkage somewhere. All the linkages I can see are intact.

Old Cat D5 Steeering Brake Problem

I have a 1974 Cat D5 that has developed a problem with the right steering brake. I have the original manuals and have tried adjusting exactly as described in the manual but even though I have tried it multiple times it does not help. The D5 has access panels behind the seat and on the rear of...

I own a 1974 model Cat D5 that was working fine when I shut it down a few weeks ago. Today when I started it up the throttle lever detent will not keep the lever in the full on position. CAT D5C Undercarriage Specs

jm, appreciate your advice. I've been doing a lot of reading on evaluating used dozers and many suggested the only way to know actual wear is to measure. No doubt if i'd had your experience I wouldn't need to measure. you have a good point though. no more than i will use it i doubt i'll add...
