Flow Control Valve For Planter Vacuum

Needing some help from experts on planter vacuum motor hydraulic fluid requirements from a 40 series tractor. I am preparing a 4640 for a 1770 planter and powering the vacuum fan with the third SCV in forward detent position, thus the retract port sends fluid out to the vacuum fan. The planter...

    Hydraulic System Heat Disapation

Happy Groundhog Day to all. Makes me think about planting season and planter generated hydraulic system heat issues. I am about to buy a forced air oil cooler to try to take care of that but have questions. The cooler is rated at 377 psi maximum and want to be sure that my return pressure will...

    4640 Front End Weights Installation

hanks for your reply and to all others who have as well. The bracket is the JD original cast of 30 inches long designed to hold a full set of 20. It has a lip on the front to hold the front hook area of the weights but nothing on the backside that if engineered with one would have nicely held...

    4640 Front End Weights Installation

Good Afternoon to all. I am going from eight on up to a full set of 20 front end weights on a 4640. I had the shorter bracket for up to 12 and so am installing the longer one for up to the 20 I need. The shorter bracket had 6.5 inch bolts going all the way through front and rear cast but this...

    Best Hydraulic Pump Retailer

Good Afternoon to Everyone. I am bumping up my hydraulic pump on the 4640 from the 3cm to the 4cm size and just wondered where to buy. I see Reliable Aftermarket Parts has it at $949 with $110 for a two year warranty while Complete Tractor has it for the same with a one year warranty provided...

    Bringing Harnesses Into the Cab

Greetings to all. Just wondering what most do to deal with multiple harnesses coming into the cab from a planter. This is a 40 Series cab and there is a perhaps 4x12 steel plate with removable bolts just under the back window right side so one could make quite an opening and somehow plug up the...

    40 Series Power Beyond Installation

Need a big favor from someone who has a properly installed Power Beyond kit on a 40 Series. I have the block in but just need to make sure I get the hoses and connectors properly configured with the correct hole blocked off, etc. No instructions or would be better yet illustrations in the kit so...

    Monitor Display For 1770 Planter

Hi to everyone. I bought a 2007 16 row 1770 planter and now need to select the right monitor display. The planter has VRD and I am being told that because of that option a "Brown Box" display will not work and that instead I need a 2600 display of which I do not doubt really though additional...

    4640 Tractor and 1770 Planter

Thanks for an excellent comparative example. What you have said underscores my decision late week after talking to a man at the company that makes and sells the PTO systems to do it. He claims the main issue is heat buildup and that there are problems everywhere even with many of the new or near...

    4640 Tractor and 1770 Planter

Well I wonder why that 4640 was with such low output and if many of these 35 year old pumps are worn out. The standard 3 cm should put out 20 or 24 depending on which source to believe and the 4 cm is rated at about 30. Mine is the original 3 so I think I will start with a rebuilt 4. I was...

    4640 Tractor and 1770 Planter

That's interesting Bob. I admire your innovation there. Maybe that system would work for me and I could take a poke at it. Do you recall where you bought it? Greg

    4640 Tractor and 1770 Planter

A JD service manager told me today that when you are running all that hot oil back through that little cooler in the front of the tractor it is a no win situation. I wonder how much good it might do if a larger cooler could be installed in the tractor. Greg
