    Allis 230 vs 262

Can anyone tell me how to easily differentiate between a 230 and a 262 from a gleaner combine? I am in need of a 262 and a distant yard has a good running engine from a gleaner but unsure if its the 230 or 262. I'm not sure I ever saw a 230. Thanks

Advise on converting D15 to 2 way/hose hydro

Thanks Dr Allis. I tend to really over think things upfront and muddy my own pictures; but, your explanation really cleared things up. I would love pics of your arrangement. Once I get the picture in my head: I'm pretty good at fabricating stuff. I'm really hesitant about jumping into...

Advise on converting D15 to 2 way/hose hydro

Dr Allis, I have a D17 Series III that I run a pto pump on for the loader. I would love to get rid of the pto pump. Somehow, I'm not getting the picture from your post. I understand the T fitting adaptation; but, miss the pump arrangement. Have you mounted an inline pump into the system...

    Allis 262 Diesel

Picked up a nice D19 diesel recently overhauled. First time out it overheated and I suspected head gasket. Pulled the head and found that previous owner had indeed overhauled the engine; however, he'd tried to repair a crack between the cylinders and did a very poor job. Took block to a very...

    Discing - Asparagus Experts

Thanks Rusty, I appreciate the insight. I am always amazed by folks who apparently don't have a clue about a subject; but, feel like they have to respond. Main reason I seldom post, I just hate all the negative, uninformed responses.

    Discing - Asparagus Experts

Wife has asparagus bed aprox 5 years old and only producing sporadically. Have read on here about discing to separate roots and increase plant distribution, good idea or not? Also read about adding salt water. Is there a particular solution, add it straight? Do you use pure salt like livestock...

    7040 Range Transmission Shifting

Thanks Dr I am a finesse mechanic not a bigger hammer type. I love my old tractors (14 ACs last count) and try to take care of issues before things get too bad. I always appreciate you common sense technical advice offered with a great, helpful attitude. Don't see a lot of that attitude now...

    7040 Range Transmission Shifting

My range transmission has been getting progressively harder to shift into fast - slow - park. I pulled the floor plate thinking adjust cable: Stud cable connects to was extremely loose and sloppy. Tightened stud and adjusted cable per service manual. Tried shifting 3/4 times without starting...

    Allis Chalmers Baler

I've had a 303 for several years and several hundred bales. Never had a problem with it. Tie mechanism is the same as New Holland of same err. Once you get it set properly, it will stay there and make some nice bales. Definitely worth dragging home. I'd buck it up against any baler of that time...

    Tractors Disappear

One of the tornados that went through Wyoming yesterday destroyed my brothers house and JD tractor collection. Luckily, they were not hurt, some minor scratches etc. Lost everything except the basement walls. Strangest part, his tractor storage building and several antique tractors just...

    HD5 hydraulic pump

Where are you located? Zimmerman Tractor in Versailles, Mo (573 378-7210) had one a couple months ago. Also, Chartrand salvage in Ellis Grove or Red Bud, Il (have two locations in Southern Il) are a good source for the older stuff. Sorry, don't have the number for them handy. Carl

    Trip to Kansas tonight

Tony, What's your reference? My grandson has been hearing/reading on social media about such things and I could find no such references. Yesterday at the family gathering, I ask my nephew who is a DOT cop. He said it was all news to him.
