    good habits for the N's

There are a few things I do habitually with my 8N I believe are helpful. Maybe not. I am certain there are many other things I could be doing. Correct my behaviors and/or add to the list. 1)open fuel cap to check fuel level before operating 2)pull dip stick and look at oil appearance/quantity...

    Hydraulics - new development :)

Thanks guys. Bruce, I ran across a post of yours from back in May on how to pull the cover for the adjustments and pin replacement. Very thorough and helpful. A good early Fall project...... and I have a chain hoist rigged at the farm when needed.

    Hydraulics - new development :)

Dunk - thanks for the quick reply. Am I doing any damage with this jury rig if I operate this way for 20 hours of disking and planting?

    Hydraulics - new development :)

I have described problems with my 47 8n lift not functioning well. After being straightened out by Soundguy to have the draft control in horizontal position for touch control I was still getting almost zero lift. Today, as I was bush hogging, I looked at the control lever under the seat and...

    hydraulics

Great! Now, what am I affecting when I adjust by sliding the quadrant fore versus aft? Is it ok to be running the PTO to observe the affect on the touch control/lift arms as I adjust the position?

    hydraulics

Dunk - great picture, thanks. See if I understand what you are saying about 90*. Do you mean the quadrant in the picture is not installed properly and that if it were, the bolt in the picture would pass thru the one hole which is not visible, and that the slots would then allow adjustment fore...

    hydraulics

Holy Moly Soundguy! That makes sense then. The lift is responding to the pressure on the tractor end of the top link because it is in draft control. Unfortunately, when not in draft control (horizontal) I have zippo at the touch control which is why I have thought that was draft position. I read...

    hydraulics

It is a late 47 8n. Position control lever is vertical (off). In horizontal position there is zero touch control response. Once it activates, it works reasonably well with a plow, cultivator, disk, moderate to poorly with a bush hog, and poorly with the 2 row planter (which has a floating draw...

    hydraulics

When I went to the farm to bush hog last weekend, I had no lift movement at all. I hooked up the bush hog but it wouldn't budge. When I lengthened the top link, as it got firm the hydraulics came alive and up they came. The week before, I had no response when I hooked up my cultivator. After...

    hydraulic lift 8N

For years now my 47 8N has exhibited "issues" with the lift function. Current symptoms: intermittent action. I raise the 2 row planter, drive to the area to plant, make a pass of 1200 feet or so, go to raise planter ... won"t lift. Disengage PTO, lower quadrant lever, rev engine, engage PTO...

    Throttle adjustment and other adventures

I guess what I"m hearing/seeing is that there isn"t much adjustment option to the throttle spring tension on an 8N. I need to remove the WD from the plate, perhaps scuff the groves with a file or get a new plate, check the spring but that"s about it. Thanks for the input from all and photos JMOR.

    Throttle adjustment and other adventures

Sorry guys. She"s an 8N. I do use her for food plots. Tomorrow I hope to plant 4 acres of sunflowers, rain permitting. A food plot for doves, if the deer don"t eat them all.

    Throttle adjustment and other adventures

First Turkey, Eden Farm 5-13-09 25 lbs 10.5" beard 1.25" spurs I need to adjust the throttle tension on the "47N. Worked just fine "till I sprayed the plate with WD40. Now it glides across the plate even when I"m not trying. I see the spring at the bottom, just not sure what to turn to...

    What a great day!

The new China made radiator arrived on Friday. I did a flow test with the garden hose, was not able to fill the radiator, and got 5gpm out the bottom. My old radiator overflowed with the hose in and only produced 1.3gpm so clearly a problem. Got up a 4am yesterday and went to the farm to meet...
