    Paint / Rust Removal

I am undertaking the restoration of a GP. I have many parts that need rust and old paint removal. I have a media blaster that works, but it goes through a lot of media to get the big parts clean. I was wondering if I first used a chemical paint stripper and then followed up with media blasting...

Model H Jumping out of Third Gear

I have done some more digging into my problem with my H jumping out of third gear. I took the suggestions of someone who replied to an earlier post and checked the adjustment of the shifting forks. Sure enough, the sliding gears for second and third were off in alignment with those of the...

Model H Jumping out of Third Gear

I have a 1939 Model H John Deere that occasionally jumps out of third gear. I recently tore into it to see if I could understand the problem. The shifters seem to fit very positively in the notches on the shaft. The bearings seem very tight. The only place I see any slop is that the high and...

    Shutter Problems

Does anyone know if Tim Sieren is still in the reproduction shutter business? If so, how do I get in touch with hime? I tried to call him at 319-698-4042 and that number is no longer in service.

    520 LP that stalls

Yes, I start on vapor. I will tear into the filter and see if anything is plugging it. Thanks.

    520 LP that stalls

I have a 520 LP that starts fairly easily, but then stalls after about 15 seconds of running. The spark seems to be good and it seems to be dying from fuel starvation. When I try to restart it, it pops a few times, but will not start at all. If I leave it to sit for a day, that whole process...

Model R with Leaking Rear Main Seal on Starting Engine

Wore Out, Thanks for your reply. I went out yesterday and was able to puncture the seal with a punch, and use a screwdriver to pry it out. Managed to not scratch the crankshaft. The new seal went in easily. Saved me a lot of work. Thanks again.

Model R with Leaking Rear Main Seal on Starting Engine

I have a John Deere Model R. The starting engine has a leaking rear main seal. I have taken off the transmission, clutch, and flywheel. I can see the seal. It seems to me the only way to replace the seal is to remove the crankshaft. The service manual is not explicit if you are looking to only...

Unstyled G Engine Oil Leak on Clutch Side

Is there a separate part that acts as a slinger? I don't see one in the unstyled G parts book. I don't have the tractor apart at this point, but when I did, I don't recall seeing a slinger. Does what the parts book calls the dust cover act as a slinger? It is a stationary part. I always...

Unstyled G Engine Oil Leak on Clutch Side

Good point. I should have added that the oil pressure is about 13 psi when the engine is warm.

Unstyled G Engine Oil Leak on Clutch Side

I have an unstyled G that has an engine oil leak on the clutch side. I have checked the main bearing clearance and it is in spec. The only other adjustment I can see is to make sure the clutch dust cover is well centered. Mine looks ok, but it still leaks. Is there something I am missing? Any...

Leak on John Deere R Starting Engine

I have a John Deere Model R that has an oil leak at about the point where the starting engine sits on the diesel engine. I suspect the gasket at the base of the starting engine that is supposed to keep the oil in the starting engine. I suppose it could be the rear main seal on the starting...
