    Stripped electrical post on starter

Can't I just screw on the new replacement stud over the starter stud? I have minimal soldering skills.

    Stripped electrical post on starter

I was looking for them online and couldn't find them. Suggestions? Bob I agree I would love it to not be stripped in the first place. I stripped plenty of bolts in my day but this one was actually the starter repair guy about 5 years ago. I needed to take the nut off to find out the repair...

    Stripped electrical post on starter

I like both of those ideas. I know a guy with retread tools. I will see if I can get my hands on them. Thanks. Much easier than cracking the starter open.

    Stripped electrical post on starter

The electrical post is stripped on the starter which connects to the selenoid. I need to replace it but am weary of opening up the starter. Any tips for me before I open up the starter to make sure the brushes etc don't fall out. I've heard they can be a pain to put back together. Thanks in advance

    oil pressure

Thanks for the info. I will keep an eye on the pressure gauge as the engine warms up. So if they are supposed to be limited to 35psi what could be wrong with my setup? Does that mean my pressure relief spring inside the BIG nut is bad?

    oil pressure

I have a 1951 8n and I finished rebuilding it. My oil pressure gauge goes up to 50 and that is where it is pinned even at idol. The farmer down the road said that might be concerning. What should the pressure be at idol and when under load?

    wont start after overhaul

$190 at Tractor supply company for a new starter!! Guess I will get this one rebuilt and hopefully save a couple of bucks. I did not check the crank with plastigauge after it was turned and I ordered new bearings. I was able to turn it by hand prior to placing the oil pan back on. I'm hoping...

    wont start after overhaul

I burned up my starter trying to get'r going so I guess I'm going backwards. I wasn't running it long either. I'm lucky if it turned the flywheel 5 or 6 times.

    wont start after overhaul

My bearing clearances should be golden. I had the crank turned and I ordered new bearings to accommodate. I lubed the walls during install. Is pull start pretty standard for a new motor? I'm worried about burning up my starter

    wont start after overhaul

I will give that a try. Why do I have this funny feeling I will be leaving a big rubber mark down the road. Is that usual for things to seem really tight and not start with a 6V battery or even jump?

    wont start after overhaul

So I'm done with my overhaul and I can't get it to start. In fact I can't get it to turn over unless I jump it and even then it seems very labored. It for sure doesn't even seem to be turning fast enough to start. I adjusted my tappets while the lifters were sitting on the heel of the cam per...

    left over part update

Thanks for all the advice on this. I'm convinced it is part of the starter as some of you mentioned. I do recall finding that part at the bottom of the well when I split the tractor. I thought it came from the flywheel but was not the case. I just have to figure out how to put it back on. Thanks

    left over part

This is my left over part after I completed a complete overhaul. Could anyone please identify it and where it goes please. It does not go with the coolant pump/fan because I didn't take that apart at all. Even though in the manual it looks just like a part from the water pump assembly. I...

    8N low compression

You can buy the fancy wrenches and they are not too ridiculous in price either. Let me know if you figure out a way to adjust them, I'm just about to purchase them so I can adjust mine. I just did a complete overhaul on the tractor and that is one of the things I must do yet.
