    JD 450c Transmission Issues

I recently purchased a JD 450C loader which has transmission issues. Low and reverse will only move the machine on level ground when warm, reverse works ok initially. High works well almost all the time, but occasionally looses grip. I did pressure test on machine, about 175psi in neutral and...

    Is There A Formula...

...for figuring the difference between the rim size of a side-ring wheel and a drop-center rim? I ask this because I know that a 20" side-ring rim can be replaced almost perfectly with a 22.5" drop-center rim. I have possession of my dad's old 3/4-ton International pickup that has 16"...

    metallic dust in IH distributor

I've got a bit of a franken tractor. It's actually an Allis Chalmers C but was retrofitted with an IH distributor and changed to a coil and points system by a previous owner. Lately I've noticed an accumulation of metallic dust inside the cap and it got to the point where one of the plugs...

C engine lacks power- partial redux

Finally found the culprit- I had noticed some fine dust inside the distributor cap and on the chance it might have been conductive I grabbed a can of dust remover from by the computer and blasted the stuff out. Tractor ran like a champ after that. Scott

C engine lacks power- partial redux

The plugs are almost new. I hooked the wire to a spark plug external to the engine and got no spark either. I verified I have continuity from the plug terminal to the post terminal inside the cap. This seems like it should be so simple but it's turning out to be anything but. Scott

C engine lacks power- partial redux

Well, I found out part of the problem- it wasn't firing on all cylinders. Had the gap too wide on the points and once that was fixed it started running better, but I'm not entirely through. It ran REAL well for a few minutes, but I shut if off and the problem reappeared in lesser form. I...

    C engine lacks power

@Dick- yes, the lever atop the governor still has a small bit of travel left when the throttle rod is on full speed. I felt the governor pushing back when I pushed on it. @Ron- Just driving the tractor around the RPMs seem fairly stable unless I hit a good incline. Not sure how I'd know how...

    C engine lacks power

Got a C where the engine has enough power to propel the tractor or run the mower deck but not both. I had it hauled to a repair shop but it seemed to work OK for them, and when they hauled it back it seemed to work OK for a day or two, but after sitting several days and attempting to use it...

    modern propane valve needed

Thanks for the tip (and thanks to all who chipped in), but looks like I won't need it as I found an adapter at a local RV shop. Scott

    modern propane valve needed

No, this is actually bigger than the usual gas grill size, which means I can't just exchange it (they don't take tanks with the old valves in exchange anyway.) I've managed to budge the old valve a bit so I know I can get it out. Now I just need someone to tell me a source of where to get the...

    modern propane valve needed

Got a smallish propane tank that I want to use with my new gopher blaster, but it's got the old style valve on it. Any idea of where to get a new one? Thanks, Scott

    C losing power/quits

15 minutes sounds about right. I can check the voltage at the distributor and see if it's still good plus I still have the old spark plugs so I can make a quick spark check.

    C losing power/quits

DOH- forgot to mention I replaced the coil too, though not the condenser. Will get another one of those and see if it helps.

    C losing power/quits

I've got a very early C which when it gets warm it loses power and finally quits. What should I be looking for? Had the carburetor cleaned up and such but it still does it. I've replaced the plugs and wires only because they needed it, though I figured they weren't the cause. Don't know if...
