    My favorite tractor. I grew up on a 1949 88 standard diesel that Dad bought new. IMHO the best all around tractor of that time period.

    Weedy oats

    I bought an old JD 800 swather years ago when oats were down and full of green. After it was all dry ( layed there for 3 or 4 days) went thru the old 18 quite well. Now even when oats are clean I swath first if the weather looks dry.

    Yes you are correct. I took a look just now and clutch discs can be done without removing shaft. I should have known this as just did my 1550 a year or so ago. I think I pulled shaft maybe just to check out drive splines?? Will leave it to Mike to set OP straight.

    I guess us Canadian farmers have some of our own terminology for things. Up here if you said to cultivate corn v/s scuffle corn we would think you were from the city! Not sure if its true or not but I think it originated from the Dutch who invented a special garden hoe called a scuffler???

    Agree they are the same, but keep in mind you will need the bushing pressed into the block that the pump idler gear runs in, the gear, the front plate etc. but you probably knew that.
