    Cavitation

Yes they have a charge pump. Does it only sound lke it is cavitating after it sits for a day or so or does it do it if you shut it down and then restart shortly after? It could be the seal or an air leak on a suction line, but before I would tear into it especially since pump has been replaced...

    3 Oliver pullers

1855 sitting there waiting for a turbo. Up here 4 digit Cockshutts are much more common than the green ones. Guess thats why I would rather have green ones?

    3 Oliver pullers

Its partly 66 . I wanted to have a wide front on it v/s the more common narrow , but wanted to keep it as light as possible so fabbed it up using the 66 outer ends and tierods. Made the pipe axle as light as I dared then got scared it might bend if it came down hard so added the gusset under it...

    3 Oliver pullers

Finished up the pulling season last night in Orrilla, night before at Bobcaygeon. Both great nights for a tractor pull. Feel kinda down that I have to put them away for the winter shortly. A fellow came up to me last night and asked what makes old Olivers such good pullers? I said simple they...

    Tillage tractor recommendations

Transplanting cabbage reminded me of when I worked on the cabbage farm next to us back in the late 70,s. They had 2 main tractors at that time a 656 hydro and a 970 Case. I remember taking the 710 JD over to run the transplanter when the 656 was broke down or maybe needed at there other farm in...

    Cockshutt 1850 2 speed removal

Those hydra powers are heavy . If you take a little weight off with hoist and pry bar around each side it should come off.

    buzz saw blades

The best style of buzz saw was the ones built with a swinging arbour v/s the tilting table. My grandfather and his brother built one from a Model T frame and parts they gathered up here and there. It has served our family well thru 4 generations and I could still belt her up and buzz wood with...

    Steam engine model failures

My Dad had a life long friend by the name of Johnny Crooks. He was a master at building mini replica steam and gas engines so detailed that if you saw a picture you would think it was the real deal. He once came for a visit and he had built a replica 1/16 scale fairbanks and morris gas engine...

    Clutch not releasing

If your second cut has alfalfa in it I wouldnt cut it this time of year anyway! One thing I have found about trying to farm with older tractors you just need to have lots of them and one is bound to work for you! I would much rather tinker with old tractors than make payments on a new one! Good...

    Clutch not releasing

Obviosly if the full face disc is thinner it might solve your problem but it looks like you are into taking her apart either way. If you need the hieght to set fingers I could look it up for you? I always check new pressure plates with a dial indicator on my surface plate to see is they are...

    Clutch not releasing

Assuming the step in flywheel is correct. I think it is supposed to be .100 or maybe .125? There are no broken ajustment bolts on your fingers? The clutch adjustment rod is in the lower hole where it attaches to the clutch lever arm? The release fingers as others have said are set close to...

    Long 610 - Engine Knock

I know you say thats not it but Your video clip sounds more like loose valve lash, or a exhaust leak than a knock. Bent push rod?? Its hard to tell however if there is a more pronounced knock at idle? I take it pistons came with new pins and you installed and sized the wrist pin bushings?

    Just curious

Weather not withstanding it depends on the time of the year. I have baled second cut that I didnt touch but was early in the season. This time of year around here you generaly need 4 good days for dry alfalfa hay but if at all possible I wont touch until the day of baling then turn it over with...

    Oliver 88 row-crop ignition issues

Just a thought. You might want to check the switch itself. That looks like an original switch in your pics. I have had more than one not make contact. Super easy to check that it has continuity from battery terminal to ignition with your ohm meter.

    Pulling a 706 Diesel questions?

I think younger persons getting into pulling is great. Keeps them occupied and maybe out of trouble doing something less honourable? My Dad started our family tradition of tractor pulling several decades ago. He farmed full time his whole life and was the only real hobby he really got into. One...

    Pulling a 706 Diesel questions?

Generally to be considered antique tractor needs to be 1959 or older. 1960 was I guess you could say a pivotal year for tractors of the more common makes. For example Deere came out with there 6 cylinder .

    Oliver 550 Distributor.

That drive pc. should be held on with a pin that will just drive out. You should be able to find one to replace it easy enough as Oliver used the same drive tang driven off the oil pump for just about every Waukeshaw. There were couple variations as some have a tach drivegear but either can be...

    Shuttle Shift Tractors ????

I find by the time you back up 10 or 15 feet stick tractor back in a forward gear it dont take much longer with the clutch in till you are ready to go again, but I only roll a hundred or 2 a year. Pretty easy job compared to the squares. Unless you buy something newish you are going to have a...
