    A day….

Combining beans yesterday, the coolant gauge started dropping. Well, that ain’t right. Went back and looked, little green stream weeping down the engine. Sigh. Drove to the shop, hard to tell what is leaking, of course figure it’s the water pump, but you never know a hose or something...

    Corn and stuff

The combine was set up for corn from last year, so I took out a few end rows and opened a field to make it easier to get around to some bean fields. It was 23% moisture, higher than I’d want but pretty good for the first week of October here. Now to get the ambition to switch the combine over...

    Ford 7700 surges on startup

My 1977 Ford 7700 will surge when I start it, screaming up to 2600 rpm, then crashes back to dying off. Additional starts it only surges a little, but it is impossible to keep it running at idle. Once it settles down the throttle works about right bit seems more touchy, and really can’t go to...

    Moisture

Been an odd year for moisture. I live in a heavy clay soil area, and do better if it is too dry than too wet. Average rainfall here is a tad too wet for me. 25 miles SW of me they are really dry. Hurting the crops. 50 miles south east of me I drove past bean fields last weekend that were...

    Rain

Anyone else wishing they could use their tractors? Almost got done planting 2 weeks ago and should be moving on to spraying and hay, but…. It rained a bunch, and now we are getting a pop up shower or thunder storm every single day. Might be a tenth of an inch or a full inch, only seems to hit...

    Fighting the combine…..

Been fighting with my combine for 3 days now. Think the combine might have won. Gleaner L3, been a good machine. The cylinder variable speed drive belt wasn’t running true. Couldn’t figure it out. Finally busted the big belt. Looks like the header pivot shaft, stub, has slipped out of its...

    Self propelled in the 60’s?

What self propelled combines were in the USA in the 60s? JD and IHC and Gleaner seemed to be the big names here. Ford had their imported Dominator, the dealer got in 3 I think they got traded in and out of the dealership and eventually just rotted away on the back corner of the lot. New...

    Hand cranking a Ford 600?

There is a broken thread about hand cranking a Ford 600 floating around here. I cant see the whole thread, just bits. So, I did not think the 100 series had a hand crank hole, crank, or option? Our 960s didnt. Or what is that thread about? Saw and very rarely cranked our F 20, H, 300, and...

    Gleaner clutch wires protection

Gleanershave 2 wiresexposed on the spinning pulley of the electric clutch on the right side. On my Gleaner L3 these wires line up perfectly with a corn row, and a random stalk seems to rip those wires off every 10 rounds or so. The stalks are very tough this year. Was there ever a cover for...

    Long week

My Gleaner L3 had the cylinder drive shaft break off last week. Its actually a short stub shaft the bolts onto the drum of the cylinder, not nearly as miserable to get out as I feared. However. The dealer said none in stock at the factory, but he found two on a shelf in Virginia. Ok, get one. A...

    Re: Landini vision 105

    Re: Ford 1600 Muffler

Your thread is broken so dont know what else was said, but how different are that series from the xx20 series? I got a generic, likely Stanly, muffler for my 1720 a few years ago. It is very tin sounding, I would probably look hard at an original if I were to do it agsin. Paul

    Pioneer Power Le Suer

This weather cant be any good at all for that show. Any updates on what they are doing? Feel bad for them, 30 miles down the road or so. One miserable ugly spring this has been. Paul

    Work master 75 3pt

So..... got this work master 75, and kinda notice after its home the upper link is cat 2 out on the implement side, and cat 1 in on the tractor. Thats a little odd? Was going to put a hyd top link on it, but now what, the cat 1 are short, the cat 2 wont fit on the tractor side. Paul

    U joint Gleaner

Think the knuckle in my grain bin on the L3 Gleaner is bad. Something is making the bin fill auger chain jump off, and everything else seems ok. They sure hid that u joint in a tough spot..... Back to the wrenches, 8 feet in the air. And dont even think about trying to stand in the grain bin...

    List price 6000 Commander?

Was just curious, for no particular reason, what was the list price on a new 6000 Commander when they came out? Cant seem to find info on the Bet searches tonight. Paul

    Finally done

Was an odd year, dry summer, wet fall, crops did ok, harvest was backwards with dry corn and wet beans. I always pick a load or two of ear corn for a neighbor and myself and friends who feed squirrels. Ended up the picking was last this year, couldnt take action shots as it got dark and the...

    Corn

Took out a little corn today. 16.5% moisture, 57 test weight. Yeld appears on the low but close to side of average in this low peat type field. Some of my higher ground will be more dismal. Its amazing to get 16% moisture out of the field here, unheard of in September! Paul

    Soon

I will be using my tractors again soon. Harvest is starting nearby, and I should get out there within the next week. Just bought this section could use a new message. :) Paul
