Alternator conversion to 1 wire
I had a non charging alternator on the shelf. Took it apart and the windings all test good. I found a self exciting regulator module on Ebay. Hopefully it will work better than the "snake oil" conversion wire. -

Ford 4000 steering pump
This is an early model 4 cylinder gas, ag tractor. Except for the steering, it is in remarkable condition. I think the steering box will have to be rebuilt one way or another. The spindles move easily but the steering is rather stiff. I may remove the hydraulic cylinders and see how stiff... -

Just acquired a Ford 4000 model 4120 serial number 7191. It has the hydraulic cylinders on the steering rods and the lines to the steering box. It is missing the pump and lines to the pump. My question is where does the pump even mount? I m thinking of hooking it up to my log... -

Blue NAA?
Were any of the NAA s painted blue from the factory. My has an NAA serial number and everything on is appears to be NAA but the only thing I can find that is red is the steering box which was probably replaced. I have high pressure washed it and seem to be down to what appears to be the base... -

NAA head gasket and valves
Yes the valves must be adjusted when replacing the head gasket. I believe the spec is .015 for both intake and exhaust valves. -

Water in NAA tranny
Well I can buy off on some condensation but since the hydraulics did have some water in the oil, the fluid level is normal and had no free water when I opened the drain plug. Of course it had been circulated by the hydraulic pump. I suspect some condensation and a lot of rain coming in around... -

Well it does get cold but not for long. I dont know why this thing did not freeze and break the case. I live in the IH20 corridor in Texas. -

Since it is so easy to take the top off, I think I like the idea of a pump up sprayer and some diesel to wash it out real good. Thanks for the suggestions! -

I bought this NAA recently. It has been sitting idle "for a while". I finally have the engine purring like a kitten. Now for the back half of the tractor. The hydraulic fluid has a little moisture in it as was expected and I understand, quite normal. I'll work it out as I use the tractor... -

fiber or metal clad head gasket
Yesterdays tractor sells both a metal clad and a fiber head gasket for my old NAA tractor. (which had a blown head gasket between 2 & 3). Which gasket would be best to use? -

NAA Engine sleeved?
Just an update: The leakoff tester arrived today. Sure enough, it is indicating a blown headgasket between 2 & 3. 70% and you can hear the air coming in the adjacent cylinder. 1 and 4 were at about 25%. -

Thanks to all of you. My precious NAA must have had an engine swap BEFORE I got it to something that was NOT sleeved. Great advice on doing the leak off test. A head rebuild with new gasket will be a lot easier than a re-sleeve. If I do the sleeves the head would need to be reworked... -

NAA Engine sleeved?
Were all of the NAA sleeved engines? Mine has low compression on #2 and #3 (60 psi) but good on #1 and #4 (115). Oil pressure is still good. Looking at doing an in frame overhaul if it is sleeved so I dont have to send it off to a shop to have it bored. -

I have the manifold that is listed in the parts section as fitting both the 134 and 172 engine. The original was cracked. So back to the question, can the 134 carb be retrofitted with a 172 kit to give it the larger Venturi and larger jets? -
