    Ludwig, I have a 1944 H serial# 160925, and it has the steel shift knob. If you believe the Production numbers at the left of this page, there were 35,872 Farmall H"s manufactured in "44.

    I have my great Grandfathers Mousehole Forge (M&H Armitage) Anvil, dated about 1830...It is about 148 lbs too. It has the same square hole through it as well. I've read a book or two on anvils and I have never seen that hole mentioned anywhere. I'm real curious too.

    I had one wear out on me last year. I called Joes Farmall Parts and had a heart attack...They wanted $225.00 plus shipping for a new one. I settled on a real good used one from a salvage yard for $25.00 plus shipping...I feel much better now...Randy

    You also have to replace the harmonic balancer as it is counter-weighted too. Motor mounts may also be different.

    Hi Andrew, It,s me...How ya doin"? You really have to partially disassemble the pump for minimal frustration. Take out all the bolts holding the pump assebly to the case and remove. Then look for the square oil pick-up tube that points downward. Clean the end of a prybar and insert it up the...

    What Is The Reason?

    That is how I did mine...I put a row of magnets across the bottom of the pump. You"ll need a resevoir higher than the live pump itself to keep prime (logic states anyway)...I did. The live pump had better be in triple A-1 shape however...That oil gets REALLY HOT, and my pump slows down...

    M Power Steering Update

    If you"re talkin" about the stud and spring setup on the water pump...the tension of the springs keeps the water pump impeller pulled foreward in the water pump housing...otherwise the impeller could "float" rearwards and actally make contact with the cyl. head casting...Randy
