1460 seperator drive problem

Did anybody ever have the splines on the seperator drive pulley strip off? I didnt take it apart yet.I dont know if the splines on the pulley or the splines on the seperator drive shaft are stripped.I got a price for a used drive pulley half, the half with splines for 325.00 I just bought the combine and need to fix this problem. Is this problem common on 1460 combines? The rest of the combine is in good condition and the motor runs great.Is it possible the splines on the pulley and the shaft are stripped? Thanks for your help!!

Been around IH rotors for 32 years and never heard of this happening.

Are you sure the splines are stripped? Are you talking the pulley on the top end of the rotor? Or the big diameter pulley with the double V belt on the side of the combine?

Are you sure the 2 speed transmission is not in neutral?

It's not the pulley on the rotor,it's the pulley that drives the belt to the rotor pulley.The rotor shift is engaged.The rotor splines are ok.If I manually hold the variable speed pulley that electricly adjusts the rotor speed I can stop it from turning.The shaft that goes through that pulley is driven by the laminated togeter 3 belts from the engine pto. The shaft is not twisted off,with the engine running and the seperator switch on, the rest of the combine parts are turning.The rotor turns as it should if you manually turn the rotor pulley.I double checked to make sure the rotor gear box was engaged.

Okay I know where your talking now.

That shaft should be easier to replace than the rotor shaft.

I have seen more one that had the splines worn out on the rotor drive hub which requires rotor removal. Any chance this is your problem?

It's not the splines on the rotor shaft,it looks like it's the splines on the seperator shaft or the splines on the adjustable drive pulley on the seperator shaft.We'll find out when we take it apart.
