15.5 VS. 16.9

I have pulled with 16.9's running out of power. I did some calculations and with 15.5's I would pulling at 0.15 mph less. Do you think this will help with my power loss? Is this enough?

I have seen 730's with 18.4's not run out of power, maybe you need mor-power, for the cost of another set of tires maybe you could get more fuel. I am running 18.4 X 34's and when I put on my 14.9 X 38's I can definitely tell a difference And normally don't need as much weight on the front and don't go as far. Just a thought Vic.

i pulled a bone stock 620 several years back and i had 18.4x38 firestones on it filled with water and pulled 9500 and 10500 stock classes and would win and also still not run out of power in 1st gear. that 730 should not run out of power either i would think

You have to consider the type of track too. A good biting track will take at bare minimum 60 hp in 1st gear if you are hooking up well and balanced right in a 6000lb class. More would be better. However, a loose track will allow you to run in 9 and 10000 classes without running short on power. You really need to look at what your competition is running for tires/power and compare yourself.

alot of difference is gonna be in the tranny, u got a low speed tranny or high speed, a low speed is 1st over reverse, i pull a high speed my 1st is next to reverse, i went from 15.5 short rubber to 16.9 tall rubber made a big difference, had to go find more motor..

Hey guys thanks for the input. I have had the pumps and injectors worked some. New motor rebuild with 45 over. Heads tight etc. It is not extreme b/c I wanted to still be able to use it to farm every now and then. Blows pretty good black smoke when working. I do have the fast tranny. The track I was on was a hard red clay track.

My 730 with a fresh engine .45 over rebuilt transfer pump and injection system does good with 16.9s. I started with 15.5s spin out all the time . I have the fast tranny. my tractor dynoed about 65 horse a rated speed with a full rack.
