While all this is going on ask around and see if you can barrow a smoke machine. Before you throw all that nice paint on your engine use it to check for leaks. Yo can check for oil leaks and coolant leaks with one. Its a common tool in most shops.

I have seen those but mostly for looking for vac leaks. I think you can make one reasonably cheap. Good idea to check for oil leaks that way though.

I made my first one it would work for this but not for proper evap leak diagnostics. We are not diagnosing evap leaks just looing for leaks after assembly. The #1 place you will find oil leaks is the timing cover folks think installing that gasket dry is good its not and will bite you. The same with the water pump gasket it needs a sealer.

You say they are going to build the bottom end I take it they will install the oil pan and timing covers.

BTW I talked my local machine shop into buying a smoke machine he liked it so good he brought another. He found leaks that would have cost him it was a good investment : ).

I was planning to do the pan and timing cover. Just have to be careful with the oil pickup attached when I pick it up. I do have that permatex 80019 now.

Temporally bolt the pan on that way you can check the pick up fit and move it safely..

You are going to have to dip all your tools in the rubber stuff so when you reassemble the tractor you don't chip that beautiful finish.

Lol. Assembly is always nerve racking with everything painted. You have to tape everything up you dont want scratched. Then if you have any mechanical issues or leaks its not fun.

I don't have the patience to do this kind of quality work. For mine, if it looks half-way decent and runs well, good enough. Half of my running 8N is gray primer colored. No, not the one in my avatar. That will get a decent paint job, since it is (ostensibly) for the SO! zuhnc

I won't be using any body filler or trying to smooth anything but you have inspired me to try my hand at spray painting. Starting with small parts to get the hang of controlling drips and sags. Remains to be seen if I can get good enough to paint the sheet metal.

I plan to take it to some shows. It will not get much work as I have a bobcat and a 50 8N for that. If I needed it for work I definitely would just be getting it running and not putting a shiny paint job on it.

I wanted mine to be a little different so some will notice its had some extra time put into it. Didnt want to just strip the paint and brush some rustoleum on. There is no problem with that of course but then its no different.

Had some issues with the high build primer hardener being wrong but finally got back to it and got the axle housings in sealer today. I also got to try out my new $20 spray gun I got from temu just to use for sealer and it worked great.
