Hi all. I just picked up an engine out of a 2030. Model #4219DR06. I got it from a repair shop that removed it when the owner noticed water in the oil. Rather than tear it apart and rebuild it, the owner opted to swap in another used motor. The guy at the shop said it fired up and ran perfect when they pulled it in the shop. No knocking or other strange noises. They pulled it and it sat on the floor for several weeks. He got tired of it taking up space so he put it on CL for $100. I picked it up mainly so I could tear it down and see how it worked. I have a 3020 and the motors are similar. When I got it home, I drained the oil which was a little dirty, but because it sat for a while was not milky. There was some sludge I the pan but no metal of any kind. I'm going to cut open the oil filter and see if there's anything in it as well. I also pulled the valve cover and rocker arms so I could pull the head to see if the head gasket failed. When I got it off, I couldn't tell if it was ok or not. I rotated the crank to look at the cylinder sleeves - they looked great (at least what I could see of them). My questions would be first, could one or more of the sleeves have leaked, or second, is there something else I can look for before pulling the pistons and looking closer at the block? The motor is complete with the exception of the water pump, stat housing, and exhaust manifold. Any ideas?
Thanks!
