2240 Hydraulics Stopped

While mowing with our early S/N 2240 last week, the power steering stopped working. Stopped engine to check for leaks and look at fluid levels. No obvious issues. Restarted, and all was fine.

It happed again yesterday and this time I noticed that 3 point would not raise. Stopped and checked everything again. No apparent issues. Restarted, and everything worked.

Any ideas of where to start?

If suction screen is clean, start tractor and run until problem occurs, Shut off engine, remove hood and plug from top of hydraulic reservoir tank. If it reservoir tank is empty it is a charge circuit problem. If tank is full of oil this is not a charge circuit problem. If reservoir if full the most likely cause would be a sticking stroke control valve in hydraulic pump. Valve can be changed without removing pump if your familiar with pump.

Steve,
Sounds like you have a high pressure leak somewhere that runs the main pump out of oil, perhaps in your mower if it only happens when your mowing. If it happens at other times it's in the tractor somewhere. Do the reservoir test as other have posted here. If it's empty your have a high pressure leak . If it has oil in it there is an issue most like in the main pump pressure control. If it's in the tractor it's going to take some work to locate the issue. I'd try it without the mower hooked up to see if it still does it. Perhaps an issue in the lift cylinder or the SCV valve on the tractor. Good Luck, John
