484 stuck in reverse

Somehow I managed to get it stuck in reverse, I can select a speed ok but high/low/reverse lever is stuck in reverse, can get to neutral even.
I've had issues before (lazy shifting) but was always able to get it going with a gentle (sometimes more persuasion is required) with a hammer or Wrench on the leaver under the center cover, clutch side.
I know the ball joints on all of the linkages are worn-out, couple will actually pop off, going to order all new ones tomorrow (Thursday).
The tractor is far from a princess maybe not even a frog, more toad in my books but it runs pretty good, it has newer tires and a loader which is all I need for what I do with it.
I don't farm just use to haul saw logs out of the bush and liad them on my saw mill.
Anyone have any ideas ?

The Rev/Lo/Hi lever controls rods on the side of the Range transmission down under the left foot rest.
DO NOT FORCE the Rev/Lo/Hi Lever or you could shear off #1 or #2 in the bottom photo.
The usual problem is in the Shift lever mechanism, the parts on the shaft on the upper photo and some gentle prying with a long screw driver will usually correct the problem. To determine if the problem is really in the Range transmission disconnect the #19s in top photo from #1 and #2 on bottom photo.

I'm going to order new ball joints/swivel ends/whatever they are called and replaced them all
Tractor is 100 miles away so it's difficult to "try things".
To top it off when it got stuck is was pouring rain and I was already soaked, so it stuck in reverse just topped it off
Did make it interesting to get it back into the lean too.

The control rod that runs on top of the transmission are for the Speed transmission for gears 1-4, if you have the old style "Z" pattern shift, the newer "H" shift pattern has two control rods on top of transmission, gears 1-2 and 3-4.
The Rev/Lo/Hi Lever has two control rods on the left side of the Range transmission.

I had forgotten it was "H" Shift, it must be a very late model 484 as usually the "H" shift didn't appear until the 85 Series and some of the early 85 Series have the "Z" shift.
See photo below for "H" Shift mechanism.
When you say "484 is stuck in Rev" do you mean that lever #20 will not move out of the REV position or is the problem you can move lever #20 into Lo or Hi position but the tractor still goes in Rev?
If the lever won't move then it is likely seize onto shaft #11 or some of the parts #12,23,24,25,26,21,22 are seized. Get under their with your favourite penetrating oil and spray the mechanism. We had same problem with my brother's 495 when we left in the bush lot most of the winter, it would only go in Rev and Lo but not Hi as we had never used Hi in the bush lot, penetrating spray fixed it.
If the problem is the lever moves to Lo and Hi but tractor is still in Rev then item #3 or #6 could be sheared off.
IIRC item #3 is Hi and Neutral, #6 is Lo-Rev.
NEVER FORCE the Rev,Lo,N,Hi lever as you coulds shear off item #3 or #6. To trouble shoot if problem is in Lever mechanism or Transmission disconnect items #2 from #3 and #6.

Managed to remember to call my closest dealer, 21/2 -3 hrs away, to see if I could even get the parts still, parts guy wasn't sure either.
According to the above diagram I need 2x#2, 2x#8 and 4x#5.
I hope I can still get them otherwise I'm kinda screwed.
Does anyone know of aftermarket availability and from where ?

I don't think you are out of luck if the dealer can't get them. #2 and #8 are just small ball joints by the looks of the drawing. You just need to ID the threads and you can likely find them at a shop that works on lawn and garden equipment. I expect McMaster Carr would have them as I have gotten some from them before. #5 looks like bushings. Measure ID, OD and length. Again, those can be found at McMaster Carr if you can't find the right size in the pull draws at a hardware store.

I just tried CIH parts online for the ball joint ends and bushings, all marked obsolete.
Any ideas on trying to find replacements.
Tractor is 2+ hrs away so taking one of each off to measure is kinds out of the question.
