52 Case SC top end oiling

Still tinkering with my SC, and can not get any oil flow to the rockers. I pulled the rocker shafts off and they are clean and no holes are plugged. I turned both shafts so the oil holes are oriented at about the 5 o'clock position with the holes facing the push rods. The oil line from the block had a crack in the top where the orifice is to shoot oil into the rod gallery. I had to fashion a new oil orifice out of brass and solder it in place, but the line is clear all the way down to where it attaches to the camshaft gallery. I changed the oil after flushing the block with about 5 gallons of stale gasoline I had which got a good amount of sludge out of the oil pan (but I have seen way worse). Replaced the oil with fresh 15/40 Rotella and 1/2 a bottle of Marvel. Still dont have a replacement oil filter as they are backordered at our local napa, but I hosed the one in it out with breakclean and reinstalled. There is good oil flow to the filter, and I get 18-20 pounds on the gauge immediately and it stays there (old gauge so dont know accuracy).

I am still waiting on my manuals to arrive, as this is my first Case in a long time. I did see a DC or CC manual page online that says they should have a drip every 5 seconds from each rocker after a 15 minute warmup. I have 0 flow at all from what I can tell, even after long observation with the cover off. Doesn't matter if I run higher rpm either, still no visible flow. I did pour oil on it myself, so that is a little distracting, but I see no movement of oil whatsoever.

I really want to work the tractor, and get her juices flowing, but without oil to the top end, I dont want to break anything.

Are you sure youre getting oil to the rocker tube? Have
you removed the small vertical tube from the rockers to
the block with the orifice? I usually completely remove
that tube. Had one plugged so tight I had to use a small
drill bit and torch tip cleaner to unplug it. A good vice
grips and twisting pulls it out.



If you are getting oil to the rocker tube, rotate the rocker
tubes more to get them out of the old rut theyve been
in for 70 years.



If youre not getting oil to the vertical oil tube, youve got
a plug in the camshaft oil ports.

I must have a plug somewhere at the bottom near the cam. All is clear from the vertical tube through the new orifice I fabricated and in through the rocker tube. I plan to blow air down the vertical tube to check that, I just sprayed brakeclean down it before and it seemed clear at that point.

Unhook the line to the filter at the block and plug it. See if that gets the oil up there.

SUCCESS!!!!!!

Pulled off and plugged the filter line and still had no flow. Pulled the rockers back off and blasted compressed air down the vertical tube (assuring there was airflow out the governor oil fill cap) and reinstalled everything. Hooked my plow up and made a few short passes under load, and checked for flow again. Oil was now flowing freely!!!!!!!!

Need to do more flushing of sludge obviously. Couple of oil changes and we might be there. Thanks for the suggestions.
