6 cylinder D17

Hi I have a chance to buy a Allis D17 that has a 6 cylinder gas engine.I thought they only put 4 cylinders gas in them. The diesels were 6 cylinders. The owner said someone told him that Allis put a 6 cylinder in a few D17s.Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks

Only 6cyl that was in a D17 was a Buda Diesel, If it has a 6 cyl gas in it when someone had a diesel that went bad and put a Buda 230 or 262 gas in it to run it agin. A 230 gas would be plenty for a D17 power wise, Just not enough weight for anything bigger. I wouldnt mind one myself. Bandit

Not 100% certain but I believe some of them that came with a cotton picker had a six cylinder gas or diesel. Course, what was said earlier could be true also.

From what I have seen, there were a few 6 cylinder 262 gas D17s that came as cotton pickers. It is probably more than likely that the tractor was a diesel converted to a gas after the diesel broke down, but there is definitely a chance it came from the factory with a 262 gas if it was an 801 cotton picker.

Stranger things have happened. Look for a serial # on the left side of motor, near where the motor meets the torque tube, on the outer edge of the sloped surface.

Hey GUYS ? ...wonder if the diesel 6 cyl. motor from a Gleaner F would bolt to the d-17 ???? .. think it is a buda 2800.....
