630 Power steering

The power steering is leaking oil out the shaft that comes from the steering wheel. I call it the steering input shaft. Another
question- Is it possible for engine oil to travel up the fan shaft and enter the power steering pump? The oil in the top of the
steering sector is very dark and smells like engine oil. If so, what all is involved to fix this? PS: I am not much of a 2
cylinder kind of guy. I have been fixing 20 series on up for 30 years but never got involved with the 2 bangers. Any advise is
greatly appreciated.

The leak at the sleeve that the steering wheel shaft connects is easily fixed by replacing a simple lip seal, AF1934R, which appears to be nla from DEERE, but it subs to an SKF/CR seal #13537. It can be replaced by yanking it out with an autobody dent puller without taking the casting that it's in off.

And, yes, engine oil can migrate to the PS system through the PS pump seals input shaft seal(s).

Originally, there was a WIDE double lip seal used, now replaced by two narrower seals and a spacer.

Face the lips away from each other and put a lit dab of grease between the lips before inserting the pump shaft.

Possibly, issues with crankcase venting and/or the crankcase ventilation pump could make this more likely.

My 620 pulled engine oil into the power steering system. The pump shaft seals were shot and the bearing behind the fan was bad. Your vent in the dipstick is probably plugged to force oil past the o-ring on the steering input shaft.

The link for the steering shaft 'wore out' shows is for a 620, a 630 is totally different as far as the input shaft is concerned.
