770 hydraulics PICS

I am in the process of disassembling the hydraulic unit for a rebuild. But I am not sure what that cylinder on the left side is for or if i need it. any advice would be great!

It is a supplemental reservoir used because at one time the tractor was equipped with single acting cylinders that had a capacity for more oil than what the reservoir would hold. It also looks like a momentary restrictor is in place on the left side which is also used with a single acting cylinder set up.

Cody, If you run a loader on those units, too much oil will still enter the hydraulic when the loader comes down. We had to attach a hose from the tow of the side canister to the top of the Oliver hydraulic unit and have the vent on the top of the side canister. Worked great then.

correct me if im wrong, but it looks to me like someone has put both restictor swivels on the left side and both of the free flow swivels on the right. shouldn't there be a resticted swivel on the return line on either side.

I had not looked on the right side but it looks like you are correct. Now when you are set up for single acting cylinders you need a momentary restrictor to aid in knocking the check ball off the seat so he would need a second restrictor body on the left side. However the insides are different. In addition to what centerplate said I would use an adjustable flow control (needle valve) that allows free flow on the raise side but could be adjusted to match the load on the lower side. My 2 cents worth. J.
