My new son-in-law called and asked if I could fix the steering on his mower. The gears were not meshing anymore, so no steering. We took it apart and found the lower bushing in the steering shaft was shot.
First I thought it was just the aluminum worn out and I was just goin to weld it up and re-drill it. But then I found a small piece of the original bushing and the housing was ok yet. But then we had to find a bushing on a holiday weekend, not much hope there. Luckily I have a "stuff" pail. This is a magic pail that has all the "stuff" you will ever need.
In the pail was a few left over bushings from some previous Case repairs. They fit the housing fine, but were too big ID for the shaft. So after another look through the pail I found a plastic bushing from a trailer suspension that fit in the brass bushing and fit the steering shaft. They fit tight together so they should work good.
They both fit tight in the housing and with just a quick reaming with aa dremil and sanding bit it all went together well.
When it was done Brandon even mowed my grass.
Should make it a much better mower with those Case parts in it.
