A Stupid Idea?

The power steering on my Allis D-15 is leaking from the reservoir. The reservoir is cast iron under the radiator. It looks to be a major task to get it out (removing the front end of the tractor). Is there some liquid sealent that I could put in the reservoir that may seal it without the sealent messing up any other part of the power steering system? I know if I do this I cannot crank the tractor until the sealent dries so that it will not get into the other parts. None of the connections seem to be leaking. The leak is slow (drip, drip, drip)and leaks without the tractor running. The power steering works good and the only problem is the leak.

Your looking for some kind of Easy Fix -- and there is none -- Fix it right by taking it off and making the proper repair --- anything you put in that reservoir will go into anything connected to it --- and it will never fix the leak --- you have to do it the right way to be a Success Just like any thing else in life ....

You knew it was before you asked. Pull it out and braze or solder it... and never worry about it again.

Like the others said, there is no easy fix. If you did try something else it would most likely cause you more problems then worth. I remember years ago I had a car that leaked oil bad and at the time they sold a stop leak for engines. I tried the stuff and it ended up costing me about $500 to fix what it screwed up. The stuff caused the oil pump relief vale to stick closed and that in turn cause it to start blowing out gaskets all over the place. I did get lucky that the weakes gasket was the oil filter and it had a low oil pressure shuts off on it so the car wouldn,t even run

Hey Soundguy I bet Ol' Farmer on the ATIS list could fix it with Shoegoo.
I staying out of this I have been kicked off that list to many times for saying things like fix it right the first time.

There is a product called Devcon putty, metal putty, it works.

While I have fixed alot of thing 'emergency' style.. Like using a gas tank epoxy repair stick to patch up a leaking sump.. I didn't leave it like that.. I chissled off all the glue then groun dit down and burnt out the oil and fluxed it up and soldered it.

Hard to make the call on some repairs... That stuf... gas tank liner.. like kreme.. or por17.. etc... they claim it's permanent.. me? id rather solder / braze up the tank or repalce it.... but that's just me.
