Anyone had this happen

Chevy astrovan lost its power steering and power brakes at the same time, must be a common denominator in there somewhere...

GM uses a hydrualic brake booster on some vehicles thats powered off of the power steering pump. check the fluid level in the pump and also see if the drive belt is still turning the pump.

The pulley is being held only by the belt, it snapped the shaft

Hydro boost, off the power steering pump... HAd the shaft snap itside the pump TWICE on my wife's suburban, everything looked A-OK from the outside: belt and pulley spinning along fine, but no power boost. Grabbed the pulley and pulled-out came the whole mess. FYI, GM says this NEVER happens...no recall, no warranty, no service advisory. Guess that's why I'm using two power steering pump shafts as drift punches.
