B front seal

Picked up a 47 B last spring with a belly mower. Runs great, not a puff of smoke but the front seal is leaking pretty bad. Maybe lost 1/2 quart over the summer. For anyone who has done it, how big a deal is it to change the front seal?

It's not that hard. You have to pull the front axle and some other stuff but that is pretty obvious. The pulley may be a little tough to get off. I made a puller to get mine off. The shaft may have a spiral groove in it. You can put a speedi sleeve on it or some people have filled it with JB weld and sanded it smooth with some good results. One thing that is always brought up is to make sure the cover is centered over the shaft when reinstalling. Do a Google search on the subject and you will get some good info. Good Luck.

Sometimes it is hard to tell if it is the front crank seal or the oilpan seal in the front which is hard to
get right, look closely.
