columbia pull

I attended the pull in Columbia this weekend I witnessed something that I found very disturbing,a tech offical was checking rpms, he grabbed the throttle and jerked it wide open not once, but 3 or 4 times very quickly it must have been over on rpms because he was DQed I found out later that engine rpms setteled immediately into the legal range It has been my experience that when you move the throttle that quickly that rpms tend to spike higher than they actually are why did the official DQ this tractor, when the rpms settled in? this man is one of the best ambassadors that the club could ever hope to have he is one of the most honest and forthright people in this club this tech official could use a good dose of common sense

How did the guy that was dq pulled. I have found that if you have a good pull and beat some one thats a official pulling or an member of that club they seem to like to find something to dq a guy. I,ve been there had that done.

I remember a guy @ the Princeton IN (NATPA) pull about 6 years ago who was running the RPM gun reached up and tug on a MM UB throttle and this bigger gentleman came off that tractor and just about killed that guy.

Well you know some people just do not under stand that they should keep there hands to them self. I once had run out of fuel on the track an a guy came out i thinking he was going to help push it off the track instead he took the fuel cap off too smell the fuel i was running. That was the day he met my boys.It was not a good thing for him.

Their checking RPM is a joke anyway. Their regular"s have found out how to get around it. MPH classes are fairer. It doesn"t matter then if you turn it 500 over.

we pulled in the 4500 div 4--the tach man had to leave to go pull--we felt another M was over and noone was there to tach--we went and asked 2 different people to tach-they was "busy"--we saw some at their trailer that just got done pulling that could tach---they did--one flagged and two tached--all 3 tech/board people--they tached all div 4 5000 lbs class--a nice U from S.D got Dq'd on rpms, I give him credit, he said fine--four tractors made it out--they told all 4 they'd be checked to make sure their throttle was open as some like to play games..or pull it part wat to tach--the tractor that got thrown out was an MM that we pull against back home--we have heard him run faster coming down the track back east, then "idle" when checked---they made sure everyone was wide open--from the bank we was staning along track, we could see he was 100 over, not the 10 he claimed and settled back--it was STILL CLIMBING WHEN THEY SHUT HIM DOWN--he wanted checked again--they shouldn't have-he wa over-they did..he was WAY OVER AGAIN!! and he knocked the tach guys hand off the thrttle to keep it from going wide open..that is a no no!!! He wasnted checked a 3rd time as his engine was steaming! I see this guy pull out east--the only thing they was guilty of was not nailing him all these years he has done this--people are building BIGGER engines know--great pull!!!!

What does your club do on checking RPMS that is better Vic? Maybe you'd like to volunteer to run the tach and show everyone how to do it?

NATPA Div 4 and 5 do not have speed limits. I was at the Princeton pull, and it was pretty obvious that the RPM check at the end of the track during those classes was just for show.

It would really throw some of those guys off if they would put a RPM box on the sled like the Illinois Stock Pullers.

And we would welcome it Soilfarmer. The RPM's should be shown while the tractor is operating NOT when it's setting at the end of the track with no load on it.

Oh another bystander with super human eyes and ears. pulling fan 101abc you know nothing of what you say. Art is the best and most honest puller I've ever pulled aganist. Of course with you using an alias makes it easy for you to tell lies doesn't it. The bank that you would have been standing on was probably thirty feet away and the numbers on that tach are probably 1/4 inch tall. Of course with those super ears you can surely hear everyone laughing at your ignorance. A lot of us were so mad about this we weren't going to pull the next day. There isn't a better liked man or a better man out there anywhere than Art Forest. Bar None!

Jim

Tell that to his rpms.....art is a GREAT guy and I a
m sure that is not being disputed so please keep your emotions and your facts seperated

Jim--i agree with you-he is a GREAT guy. however, you can NOT honestly say you never heard his tractor rev coming down the track very fast. We heard they are working on the boxes-when this does happen there will be noone to make excuses. As I read the rules on their rpms, it says margin of error, not run it to the highest number and then want more. the promoter with the allis, a strong running little ford from MI also was over rpms--they just turned tehm down and pulled later.. drop it guys--who cares, tractors get warm and run more rpms--at the meeting one tech guy said it best, you all sit there and whine then put others in the spot to make calls cause most people don't want to be the "bad guy"--the guy with me heard this particular tractor driver get told and suggested to back his down a little for the pulloff cause he was awful close going over, he didn't do that. we had a blast out there and commend everyone on a great pull. see you all at tallmadge and wauseon next year!

Sounds to me like Art must have been a threat to someone this year. So they had to stop him some other way. Antique pulling just went to crapper like so many other motor sports.

I found out about 8 years ago it is a click and you are in are out.Pulled in Ketucky I was 50RPMS lower then allowed went to Priction got DQ for RPMS havent pulled with NTPA since. Would love to pull winter circiut but if you cant go have a good time you might juist as well stay home. Leroy Brave.

All 3 events I made it to this year (Corunna, Wauseon, and Tallmadge) when they checked my RPM'S they were the same every time, that really impresses me that they were exact. I don't think Art would cheat on purpose. Or the other 2 guys you mentioned in your post would either. Div. 4 hooks grew this year and it looked like it is on the slow up swing again. I enjoyed meeting new people and some familiar faces pulling with NATPA this year and can't wait untill next year to hopefully make more hooks!!

If RPM'S don't matter why do alot of you always run over what you should and then gripe when you get caught. Ive been pulling NATPA for 15 years or so and it's fairest place to pull. The biggest proble they have is the tire rule in div. two. The RPM'S should be read going down the track with a dispay board for averyone to and we would see who's cheating ands who's not then is no more old buddy thing. Keith

It would be nice to run 14.9x38's in div 2 4500#, might take my 40 DC to Lincoln but I don't feel like changing tires as I can run them everywhere around here and at Norfolk with the NE Neb. pullers.

go to the meeting and propose rule OR call a board member when said class is up and recommend it instead of caryying on here--are they supposed to read your mind?!?!?

Hey fellas. Enjoyed the pull! I've followed some of these MM tractors, including the "General" for years. MM's have always had a rpm disadvantage from the factory. 5-stars, less so. When yellow wins, red and green folks are naturally sensitive. A special announcement was made regarding RPM at the driver's meeting. The words led me to bellieve if officials didn't like how you revved after the pull, they would run your throttle. I don't know if the rules designate "settled" rpm or the peak of cracking the throttle, but given the scrutiny all pullers were warned of, I'd think it best to err on the side of caution. Great pullers and officials, all good friends, but black & white rule. And remeber officials, a little extra etiquette can sometimes ease the sting of a DQ. I've been on both sides.

I noticed this year the officers did not have to tech out all the time. They were waved by and nothing was thought of it.I also noticed that most of the pullers ran throttle and looked at their tach. The comment made by another poster said they was the fairest.I do not know where you pull but I do not consider NATPA the fairest. The regulars alway have the advantage.I thought it was funny at the summer pull that some of the tractors was still on the semi and already had the new tech stickers.

I personally think the NATPA is going downhill fast. The over react on the rules if your not one of the click. While the regualars do what they want.I made two pulls and that was all I needed to see.I highly recomend thinking twice before joining the club. They want the money but not outside competion.I say go to USAP.

Hi Lucky Dog! It was great to see you in Columbia.I was glad to see you had some good hooks out there. Hope you had a safe trip home.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people for nominating me to the board, even though I was not elected. I felt honored to be nominated and would like to thank all the people that voted for me.
I also agree with SOS 88 Puller. I would like to see the tire issue settled in Div II. Then it would be black and white, not a gray area.
I just wanted mention that I have pulled with Art back home in PA for many years. He is a man of honesty and integrity. He is the first one to help someone when they need it.

Ethan, that must have been some bump on the head a few months ago. :D How are the Molines "RPM Challenged"? Here's some of the more popular brands/models with their RPM's at DIV I specs. MM's are right up there, plus when you put the X block and crank in the Y tractor...

I didn't at any time say that his RPM's were not over but they were not over like you said they were in your earlier post. What I was talking about was HOW it was done. And how can you say that he's a great guy when you accused him of cheating also in your earlier post. You're a nameless wonder aren't you?

Jim

so who's carrying on here? I do see some expressing their opinions, as far as I know that is still allowed isn't it?

As always it is great to see you and your wife, wish we lived closer so we could spent some time together.I need some driving lessons from your wife as this dummy just does not know how to slow down. As far as the tires in Div 2 it will stand as is for one more year until a membership vote. So anyone with issues please plan to attend the meeting at championship pull next year. I think that is when it will be decided. If I"m wrong some one correct me!! A great pull, Nice place, Wonderful people, How can it get any better. As Richard said if you don"t like what is being done STEP FORWARD!! Bill

If you guys are so fair why do you have all these prolems and USAP doose not. I always made most of there pulls, Priction and Cloumbia are not that far for me but will not come till you get your act together and treat every body the same.I have a bunch of freinds that feel the same way. When you need more hooks you know what to do.

Art, did he not pull on Sat. I was at a pull one time and Art was there he got upset because he thought he had jumped in front of my dad who is in his 70's at the scales. I told him no he didn't. All he said was that he was sorry he didn't mean too. Very honest person and a gentleman at the least NATPA could use more people like him. Who pulled Mr Sellers tractor for him on Sat? Thanks to whoever did.
