Combine Serial Numbers

Is there a listing out there for combine serial numbers like there is for tractors? I just acquired a Case 960 combine (collecting tractors was a little too mundane I guess) and would like to know the year it was built - it is serial nubmer 8376801. It has a 13' header (a little newer than the combine - the "Case" lettering is old style on the combine and newer style on the header). We finally got it started and drove it 16 miles home - the longest 16 mile drive I ever made!

Thanks for any help.

the serial # you gave shows as a 1970 model but you said the combine has the old logo? let me ask you this, does it have a eagle on the side tin above the rear axle? this means it is 1966-1968,if no eagle it will be a 1969-1970, also on the drive from the engine to the thresher is it one belt or a two band belt(two belts bonded together)this change was made for the 1969 model year to end of production this also allows the engine rpm to speed up and changed horse power from 70hp to 85hp as far as decals I have seen and own a 1660 that has a 1969 serial # but has 1970's logo's on it I can't say for sure why but it looks to me as some one at sometime has changed the grain bin and redecaled it as a 70 model as I can see on the rear hood where the old log was. As far as the 960 went they were very good machines easy on gas and low upkeep I have four of them (one is a parts machine)I use them to cut wheat-oats-barley-alpha seed-camelina- and grass seed. production on the 960 was 1966-1970, this machine started as the 700 which was made 1963-1964,then the 900 made 1965 each had minor improvements but header remained the same 10ft-13ft-14ft from 1963-1968 then with hp change they added a 16ft, also added in 1969 was option of hyd swing on unloading auger, all had the Chrysler 225 slant-six engine I think LP was a option no diesel was offered hope this helps Tom.

Thanks, Tom - that helps.

I checked the serial number and found I posted the wrong one - I went by what was written in the owner's manual, but that is not the number on my machine. My combine's number is 8323097 - I guess the manual was a replacement somewhere along the way - obviously I should have checked!

My machine has the old lettering on the bin, eagles on both sides, and one drive belt.

Thanks again.
