DC PTO install

What do you have to do to install a PTO shaft back into a DC Case with non-live PTO? Mainly, does the front of the shaft have to be lined up with a gear through an access plate or does it just slide right in?

Thanks in advance.

I remove the trans cover to line up engage fork on collar and drive gear, someone might say this is not neccesary but that is part of the shop book procedure, go into clutch housing to remove nut on the end of the shaft, under domed cover

There is no other way that I can see to remove/ install other than the way Doug described. When the shaft is removed things just drop all over in there as they are carried by the shaft. A gear, a washer and a sliding collar are free to go wherever gravity takes them, usually to someplace a shop magnet cannot reach (Murphys Law) mEl
