Different mowing job

Fairly hot today. I should be done mowing by now. I had a interesting request by one of my customers. HIs company owns an acre in a business park. I mowed it a couple months ago. The lot has a green grass area along the road about 200 ft. long 20 ft wide. His lot is full of gophers. The gophers started moving from a dry field to this green grass area. The gardeners in charge of this grass area are after the owner to do something about the gophers. There hundred's of gopher mounds. I am using my flail mower to go over the ground to flatter the mounds, with the real roller, then a pest control company will come in and treat the fresh mounds. All I can say I hope they his company, who owns the land has a lot of money. When Dad was farming he paid me 25 cents for each gopher I trapped in his bean field. Back in the 50's that was a lot of money for for me. we didn't get much of an allowance. Stan

Since you are in CA, I am surprised they don't just make you relocate them rather than destroy them.

We have them around me in Southern California. There are several contain my area who deal with them. I have one on a yearly contract for my property. You could do it yourself but you can’t buy the poison without a license.

Back in the 50's we used to hand transplet outyside corn rows with treraterd seed . Now I kind of enjoy them in the lawn. My Lab dog digs and I mow , bit I've got holes to refill.

My lab digs holes in yard to eat tree roots!!

Trapped gophers since I was a teenager, showed my son and we did a few jobs together, $8 a gopher. He started working for a Ford New Holland dealership and seen the mounds, took a trap into work and caught the gopher, mowing guy was happy. He also scared the crap out of some of his coworkers with the gopher as many have never seen a pocket gopher.

If they support much of the rest of the country, why can't they support themselves? They receive 160 billion a year for for stuff like a bullet train to nowhere.

If California stopped paying the federal government there be a serious lack of funds in the US treasury. We give far more than we receive back. Most of the states do not contribute squat to the overall budget. California could survive on its on income, can your state say that???? I seriously doubt it.

That is absolutely not true! All they do is take. I am surprised in California the evil government just does not pass a law to ban gophers. They think they can ban other natural elements. I feel bad for nice hard working folks like this poster who are stuck there.

Please. It doesn't matter what California supports or doesn't. This place is indefensible. When newer pickup registration is $1000-1200 per year, you're living in the most beautiful hell imaginable.
