Farmall Cub piston rings

Hoping someone can help please. I have new Farmall cub piston rings from Steiner to install. The old oil control rings are different to the new ones and have an expander behind them. The new set of rings has wavy oil control rings and no expander to go on first. Should I use the old expanders or put into the new rings on without them?
Thank you for the help.

JK welcome to YT! My first inclination would be to call
Steiner to see if they had a suggestion or could find
out some way. Secondly, their rings should come with
instructions on how to properly install them. Thirdly,
just from experience a wavy section of the oil ring
most times is the expander and position element for
the two thin oil scraper rings. Lastly, mixing two
different designs of rings would usually not have a
good outcome.

Thank you that's a good help. I have emailed Steiner too to ask. I'm in New Zealand so not a simple phone call.
I'm trying to upload two photos to show new and old rings so you can see what I've got. The spring I'm not sure about is behind the biggest ring.
The Steiner instructions are good but don't mention these

I'm on board with Used Red. Using part
of the old set up, with the new,
sounds like a bad idea.

The style of oil ring can vary from
one maker to another. You may not
notice any difference on the other
rings (compression and scraper), but
not un-common to see different oil
rings.
What ever the case might be, it's
important to install them correctly.
Might not hurt to be on the safe side,
and check and see if you got all the
pieces included in the packaging.
Definitely do that, before using any
of your OLD parts that may not be
needed.

I'm guessing your new oil rings are
intended to be used without an
expander. But, ... that's ONLY a
guess. I'd think the replacement wavy
piece would be made larger in size to
eliminate the need of expander. But,
who knows. I've seen stranger things.

Thank you that's really helpful. I suspect you are right but want to be sure before assembling.
Appreciate the help thank you

two different types of oil rings,... use what u got in the new package. old ones are junk.

2 more posts for pictures, see copy paste below for
your reading pleasure. New Zealand, I suspect we will
have to wait until tonight for replies since you are
probably asleep now. Are there many Cubs or other
letter series IHs over there?

THERE MAY be an alternative work around, on Modern

there. Follow the photo posting process I laid out
above and then see if this will allow you to post your

Thank you, I managed to get the same answer on Facebook too so will hopefully get new rings on today.
Yes quite a lot of Farmalls in New Zealand and quite a few collectors.
I've got two Cubs and an A, 012, Case SC, Allis WC and MH102jr.
It can be hard to find Cub implements here though - most tractors haven't got them. Also seems to be harder to find vintage JDs here than IH.
The Cub I'm working on was left to me by my Grandad and was the first tractor I got so it started the hobby but it hasn't run right in years, hoping we are nearly there
