farmall head gasket

looking for a thin head gasket for my farmall m tractor . somewhere around 15 - 20 thousands ?

I dont have one or know where to get one, but I am interested in why one would do this. I would be concerned about leaking, etc. I have an M with a standard head gasket...

its a antique pulling tractor , you can only shave the head so much so need to make it up somewhere else , the stock head gasket is 65 thousands , doesn't need to be that thick so i am looking for a skinner one .

had a friend who used to pull a 460. he had the same issue. he had grooves cut in the head and matching grooves in the block. some sort of copper ring was used to seal the head and no gasket was used.

Dont go thinner than .032. Ive done as thin as .020 out of copper, they did seal, but the piston/head clearence is tight, too tight. Also, if your blocks still run sleeves, they have a sleeve standout above the block, so the copper wont crunch in and seal up. If a stock gasket can be used, use it, proper assembly and break in will gain as much torque as the extent of a thin gasket. .032 will still keep the clearences with little work, it does raise the cyl pressure,,,, Ive seen up to a 20 psi gain with the .020 gasket, probably 15 more with a .032 VS the stock gasket. Engine had flat top 4 inch bore pistons, they hit at .020, (imagine that LOL) tapped when it warmed up, quiet when it was cold,, so it was at the tipping over the borderline of tight. If you have done cyl head work, say new valve job, milled up to .100 off the head, new gaskets, good carb, new intake, good IGN, you will make more power than what you had before, dialing it all in for good relaible tractor!
