Farmall starters

I was wondering if any of the starters interchange between models. I am sure the A, SA and B starters are one and the same....but what about the C and SC or H? I"d hate to think I might pass up an opportunity to pick up a usable starter because I didn"t know what ones will interchange.

No they arent the same. Some use the sw on the front and some use the sw on the rear. Some have threaded post and some have the button. They may bolt to the bell housing but then how are you going to energize it. That why a good parts book will have so many options for rebuilt.

The A, B, C, H and M starters will all interchange if you red neck engineer the switches. The A, B and C starters may not have as much power as H and M but will work for a while at least. Have been using 140 starter on my M for years and so far it works fine.

A, B, and C starters may have only two field coils instead of four. A, B, C, and H may not have the center support bearing used to keep the armature from bending in higher torque applications.
