Hi guys.
Today I bought a Kubota b2150 4wd tractor for $1700. They said it had a blown engine, but I think it has a blown head gasket or a fuel issue (maybe water in the fuel), because they said the exhaust went white, then it quit. what do you think?

Could be a head gasket or a variety of other problems that get water/antifreeze into the cylinders. But for1700 its worth buying and troubleshooting. Pulling the head should tell you if the gasket is shot. If that is not obvious, have the head checked for cracks.

Yeah. I'm hoping to give it a shot of ether tomorrow.

Pulling the lipstick should tell you something. Loosing the oil pan drain should tell you something. Opening the fuel filter drains should show you something.
I already pulled the dipstick, it looks good. but before I give it some ether, I'll loosen the drain plug, just to make sure it doesn't have any water/antifreeze in on the bottom.

So today I turned it over and it started after a few tries (didn't use any starting fluid), but it ran away (went wide open throttle). And the shut off knob didn't shut it off. Then I took the shut off lever cover off of the injection pump. The fuel rail is stuck at full throttle, but it doesn't seem as if it were rusted stuck ( it does wiggle a little bit). what do you guys think? I'm not sure if it got oil pressure or not, I was to busy trying to shut it down to check. And man! it get your heart going when it runs away and the shut down doesn't work. :)

Why not use starting fluid?
Think about this: Starting fluid is highly flammable and will "explode" if the mist is ignited. What do you think will happen if that mist reaches a hot glow plug if the glow plug is in the intake manifold or a valve is still open? I saw parts of an air intake system blown more than 50 feet from an old Mack, with a Cummins. Turned out a new yard guy (trying to be helpful) walked up and gave it a good shot of starting fluid, without talking to the driver. The driver was properly using the glow plug and knew starting fluid was not to be used. Luckily no one was hurt but the truck was out of commission for a couple days while we fixed the intake system.

Yikes!😲

I know Diesel Creek uses it a lot...
Believe what you want but just because Diesel Creek or some other You Tuber does something doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. And do you know for certain the glow plugs were actually working? From what I have seen it is not uncommon for the little details, that can be important, to be left out of You Tube videos.

You have a good point (y)

I wouldn't say Diesel Creek is the one to take a safety class form but he is still alive!😆
But his engines are all junk to begin with. If one blows up he still makes the money from the video so has little to lose. He has an interewting channel for sure, but not someone to emulate if you have your real money on the line.

What did you do to stop the engine?
