Got Another One

I finally came across one of those elusive
deals you guys always seem to stumble
across...finding a tractor for a song.

A lady my mom used to work with got ahold
of me Friday and said they were moving;
they had this old 2N that hadn't run for a
few years. She said if I could haul it I
could have it. And she asked if I would be
interested. "Yes, I would be very
interested!"

Went and picked it up Saturday evening.
Owner said it was a '40-'41 and hadn't
moved in 3 years since he began having
electrical issues. All 4 tires had sunk
into the ground about 3" so I pulled it
out, then winched it up on the trailer.

Engine S/N N121307 says it's a '43 I
believe (haven't spent mich time looking).
Its been converted to 12V. The rear tires
seem to hold air, have to wait a few days
to see about the fronts. It's got extensive
modifications EVERYWHERE and some issues.
All the electrical needs replaced for sure
(harness and most likely a few hard
components as well as plug wires). Even in
Neutral, if you don't hold the shifter in
just the right place you can hear the gears
in the tranny ticking on each other. But
for the price, I can't complain. One of the
modifications I really like is the exhaust
clamp, seems a lot better or at least more
user friendly than the cast ones they
normally have with two bolts.

Haven't decided what to do with it yet but
there are three options: 1) keep it for
parts, 2) sell it as is or 3) get it
running then sell it.

Nice score!
The next best thing to getting a great deal yourself is seeing a friend get one.
I'm happy for you.
Yeah, figure out what it needs and make your decision based on that.

A friend once asked me to take a 9N off his hands for very short money, but I just couldn't think of when I would get to it or how it would fit in if I did. Another time I got home from vacation and found a beat up old 8N with jungle jim behind one of my barns. I suppose someone thought that I wouldn't notice it sitting there. I pushed it onto my trailer and took it to a guy that I knew would take it and intend to fix it even if he never would.

I had a 9N that had a clicking in the transmission. Turned out that the shifter was worn on the bottom allowing it to drop down just enough to contact the gears below. Build it up and ground it back to size and no more clicking..

Good for you! I'm with Ultradog, figure out what it needs and
then decide whether to part it, keep it or fix it and sell it.
A running tractor will bring more than a non-runner if you
decide to sell it but not enough more to make it worth a total
overhaul and restoration. If a tune up and cleaning fuel lines
etc gets it done, that would be money well spent IMO.

I think I will probably let it fall in line with the other projects see what comes of it. Maybe go over it real thorough with pen and paper to figure out what all it will need to see where it gets put on the list and go from there.
