Got the 1850 running

Yesterday went pretty good. Had to change the cylinder on the field cultivator, and then went out and ran 6 or 7 acres to make sure everything was going to work OK. Went to town about 9 to pick up new alternator for new 1850 and then to Farm&Fleet and got more motor oil. On the way home, wife called and said that daughter, sil, and grandson were on their way down to visit. Got home and put the alternator on, and kids arrived. Grandson (Carter 2 1/2) had to come out and climb on the new tractor. Started it up and it's charging like it should. Hooked onto planter and took it out to see if I could plant with the trash wheels on, didn't work too well, so I came back in and sil helped me take trash wheel off and put no-till coulters back on. Finished loading planter and then went out to field cultivate some more, Carter had to go along for a while, then wanted to go see Momma. I got enough done to start planting, so I went in and got new 1850 and planter and started by the house. Kids came out and said goodbye, Looks like we will have Carter next weekend. I planted what I had worked up, got done about 7:30 and was starting to drizzle. Raining pretty good here this morning. 1850 ran fairly well, everything seems to work OK, BUT more blue smoke than I like coming out the exhaust, and it's not really missing, just seems to stutter an little bit- not as smooth running as I would like it to be. Will change fuel filters and put some Seafoam in the fuel tank and see if that helps. Attempt at double posting pictures. Chris

I have one of those 2-1/2 years old one that has his favorite word of "outside" He is a tractor boy too. I would run it some more and see what else you find. How does it start? Use oil or just leak?

Hi, John. It seems to be a hard starter. It only has 1 small battery, but it turns over good. Helps to preheat it for 20 or 30 seconds. Haven't got to run it long enough yet to know how much oil it uses, but does have a few small leaks to contend with. I planted with it yesterday, and drained oil from motor and hydrapower when I quit last night. Filters look like they haven't been changed in a long time. I did look under the PTO housing and there are 2 bolts sticking out, one on the bottom and one on the rear, Think it might be a 540/1000 RPM PTO. Alternator worked without putting on a ground wire. Was this tractor sitting on the lot a long time? I see you have a WFE oil filter and a White Motor 3 speed filter. My 2-105 last year still had an Ag One filter on it! Sometimes you still see those older filters on units...makes you wonder though.

It was only on the dealers lot a few days. It had been used as a mowing tractor for quite some time, so I'm guessing it hasn't had the oil and filters changed for some time either. I checked the air filter and it was stamped 1978. Yes, I changed it. Chris
