Help identifying engine

Hello people that know so much more than I about engines....posted a previous post with a picture of my engine, was actually my first post on this site or any others. Have read a whole lot of the posts on here trying to determine what my engine is..I could really use the help as I need it for work and personal use..Also would need to know where I could get rebuild kit if possible once I know what engine it is... I gather that the F600 means it is a 6 cylinder but what does the A 533 mean and other letters... Somebody on here posted that measuring the length of motor says what Continental engine it is ( would have go back to fined out who this was)...mine measures 24" (basically the head) all of his measures were 25" and up...f226 etc.If true then does that make my engine some other make that a Continental ...Looks like the F226....If I need more pictures I can do that...Had a bd220 in grader and crankshaft broke ...caused pulley and large timing gear to break and make crack inside case next to front seal...Used this other engine (flathead 6 ) out of another503 grader but was burning so much oil have to rebuild.. Don't know if I could fined gear and crank for bd220 (crack doesn't go through the outside of the case as far as I know but am leary of it... Help would be greatly appreciated

I have linked your previous thread here. Adding some more pictures would not hurt, at least one looking down on the head, looking front on, and one of the other side. If you have questions about two different engines post pictures of both engines but identify the pictures so one knows which is which.

Numbers cast into a cast part like a block or head often relate to foundry info, not necessarily related what the component, or some components may be used in multiple applications. Some of those numbers and letters can be casting lots and dates, etc. Carefully look and clean any spots on the block that are machined flat, serial numbers are often stamped on one of those surfaces. And if you find such where you found it can be a clue as to the manufacturer.

Have you checked salvage yards for another BD220? PARTSASAP, parent company of YT and owner of this site, runs several salvage yards use their web site to get a phone number and give them a call.

Once identified you will likely have to purchase individual parts for that flat head, if you decide to rebuild it. And I suggest you will want to be sure all the parts you need are available before you start buying things.

Take a look at this . F600 looks to be 6 cyl. Continental.
Remember Continental made engine for lots of different applications.

Ok I got the measure wrong on engine it does measure 25" front to back..Quefan member says that makes it a f226 -----if it is a continental ....Looks like one I saw a picture of....Do need confirmation so I can try to get the correct parts...Someone had said Dodge had their on line of engines they used.... Mine has big D towards front on carb side so I didn't know if that indicated Dodge...Someone also talked about a Hercules engine....All confused me... Here are more pictures...Thanks for all of y'alls help...

Thanks Duner WI. The weldmart link will help so much....

Thanks Jim.Me. New to this so did not know about the parts and salvage yards from this company.

Posted new pictures of the engine. I need know for sure what engine it is...

Is it a f226.

Can anyone tell me for sure so that I can try to find parts. Help would be greatly appreciated.

It's definitely not a Dodge/Chrysler industrial, they had the distributor on the left side of the engine.

Can't say for sure but I'd put my money on Continental. Looks like the engine that was in an old Toro Park Master that I used to operate on a sod farm.

Call Montes Equipment in Chicago. They specialize in old Continental parts. They have a website with some info.

Parts for a 4-71 should be readily available. Web search 4-71 Detroit Diesel parts and you get hundreds of hits.

Thanks you for the information. Will feel more confident in getting the grader knowing this.
That single cylinder displacement of 71 cubic inches was used in many configurations for many years.

. Inline models included one, two, three, four and six cylinders, and the V-types six, eight, 12, 16, and 24 cylinders.

Thanks you for the information. Will feel more confident in getting the grader knowing this.
If you get the grader, get an actual GM/Detroit Diesel manual for the 71 series engines. there were many configuration and they could be built to rotate in either direction, depending on the application need.
