[b:daeae5ff21]Got into it with a guy on a gun forum about tractors. The subject of PTO’s came up. Below is what he posted.[/b:daeae5ff21]
The live PTO is much safer for running equipment like a brush hog or anything else that has momentum enough to "reverse power" the tractor through the PTO shaft. Once the equipment is spinning it is impossible to stop the tractor quickly without the live PTO.
[b:daeae5ff21]After that I responded that what he said was not true and that an ORC would take care of that problem. Below is what he came back with. How many of you believe that not even 1 out of 100 old POS Ford tractors equipped with brush use an ORC?[/b:daeae5ff21]
I am well aware of these "dog clutches" but if you suggest it to many people they just blow it off. I am willing to bet that not even 1 out of 100 of these old POS Ford tractors equipped with brush hogs are so equipped. The 8N is a good small tillage tractor, but I will [b:daeae5ff21]never[/b:daeae5ff21] suggest that anyone get one to mow with.
