I hate Kwik Trip

Does anyone else hate Kwik Trips destroying good conventional gas stations with resturants? They're like aliens and the food is sh*t and I hate the atmosphere and music. They keep going up everywhere buying up and taking away the good gas stations that have edible food.

Hmm. If they're "destroying" other businesses, doesn't that mean customers prefer what they're offering to what the existing businesses offer?

A few weeks ago we drove through several small towns in eastern Colorado looking for a restaurant. We had to drive a hundred miles to find one that was open. There were no Kwik Trips or similar businesses to compete with the local restaurants, there just wasn't anything open. I think people's habits changed when that thing we can't talk about happened a few years ago.

I look forward to stopping at kwik-trip when traveling as they have very good cinnamon rolls and molasses cookies and their breakfast sandwiches are no different than at McDonalds and you dont need to wait to have someone do you a favor by taking your order

You can afford gas station food? I pay at the pump for my fuel and eat at home or a restaurant.

Well for example a citgo with a burger king attached got wiped out by kt. They should at least not take away the areas where there's only one in country areas or small villages.

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I go to a gas station for GAS. I go to resrtaurants for FOOD. So, until restaurants start selling GAS, I will go to the food place for food and the gas place for gas.
missing out on some pretty good food
Several gas stations here have diners in them.

One of the best eats in town is a gas station. And we have no shortage of places to eat from mom/pop place to chain store to fast food. Joke here is every street corner has a fast food, bank and church building. Very close to right. They offer a buffet that is great. 3 to 4 meats, 6 veggies, dessert, plus, chicken fingers, corn dogs, potato wedges. Also offer great breakfast. It is all to go. At breakfast, lunch, and dinner time it is swamped.

Nearly 50 years ago, I was on a two-person road trip from the Detroit area to every state west of the Mississippi. We pulled off of I-80 in West Des Moines after driving all night to fill up. Got to Grand Island, Nebraska when I discovered my full backpack, including $300 in unsigned (DOH!) travelers checks, was missing from the trunk. Quickly realized I had pulled it out while filling, and must have forgotten to put it back in. Had only a vague idea of the place's name - we didn't have Kwik Trips in my area. Made U-turn illegally on highway, called operator at first phone, explained the situation. She not only figured out it was Kwik Trip, but also pinpointed the particular one. Called them, they said yes, someone found it standing against a pump this morning and brought it in. Drove back (may have exceeded the speed limit) and lo and behold, there it was. The only thing I could figure was missing was a pint bottle of Southern Comfort with about 2 shots left in it. That was a finder's fee I was overjoyed to pay.

Kwik Trip will always have a special place in my heart for that. It was the road trip of a lifetime, and would have been over before it started without that pack.

As far as gas stations with "edible food", Kwik Trip is head and shoulders above any other gas station food around "here". I take it you have never experienced the cuisine at a Holiday station for comparison. 🤮

In most small towns under 1000 people there is not a whole lot of choice other than convenience stores, especially after 5 pm. The 1950 are not coming back. Kwik Trip, Kum & Go, Casey's, Dollar General are the norm in small towns now-a-days. In the Mid-West Buc-ees seems to only be in bigger cities.

Maybe this is a golden opportunity to open your ideal gas station/restaurant?

FYI, Casey's has better pizza than many pizza places. On football Saturdays the code SAVE 40 will get 40 percent off any pizza. https://www.caseys.com/menu/c/pizza

We have 5 KT's in town & they usually empty out on hot food fast. They don't have as much effect on what few ma & pa eateries there are left. The national chains do. We currently have another Culvers moving in on the spot of a favorite Greek family restaurant that recently shut down a few months ago & is right down the road from a local burger joint. The loss of the latter is of little consequence to me, but would be missed by many others in town (who just don't know any better). McD's & BK have felt the strain of the new KT's in town, because they don't serve the decent burgers at good prices that they used to have some 40+ years ago. We got a DQ back in town recently, but I don't know how they are fairing. The KT burgers are closer to the DQ burgers of long ago, especially when you add the lettuce, tomato, etc. And we're not paying through the nose for the roaylties of a national/international chain. Oddly enough. Kwik Trip has been taking top honors in national gas station chain polls & that's with KT only being based in three states. In one of the last major polls, they just knocked Buc-ees & Casey's down a few pegs & are sitting at #1.

All this from what was a grubby little north woods chain... whose gas stations (in some places) smelled worse than their bathrooms & the dogs on the warmer had been between the rollers so long, they were like jerky.

One other thing....

We do still have ma & pa restaurants, they just serve the expensive snobby food or whatever douchebag fair is common out on the left coast.

Lastly....

We actually have to drive for a good fish fry place, but that's always been kind of tradition anyhow. Going around the neighborhood/area/state/etc. & seeing who else has good fish on a Friday night.

Now, am I trying to get you to eat there? No. Everyone's tastes & taste-buds are different. Just filling you in on why many do like it.

Mike

P.S. And the dog likes it!! He'd be upset if I didn't state that for him. Lol! If I can find the picture of him sitting in the truck at KT, I'll post it. He knows what's going on & he becomes this perfect, stoic statue sitting on the seat of the truck. Tucks his ears back & all. He's like that from the time we hit the pavement, too.

For about the last three months, another guy and myself have been working close to a town of about 3,500 people. This town has a highway running through it that is used by quite a few people every day. You would think there would be someplace halfway decent to eat there, but not so. Within the past couple of years, the Hardee’s and the Taco Bell have shut down. (Not five-star places to eat, but they used to take your money) This town now has a Subway sandwich shop, a Casey’s, two Sinclair gas stations, a Mexican restaurant and a small diner that the railroad pays to stay open 24hours/day. None of these are really good.
There’s also a Walmart that has a deli that serves mostly chicken…except they are usually out of a lot of items in a daily basis. My co-worker drove yesterday, so he decided it was Subway. I got the Wednesday special which was meatball sub. They must recycle their meatballs every day because of the four meatballs my sandwich got, one of them was so tough, I could barely chew through it and I spit it out on the ground. Now I know I couldn’t work in the food business, but this town really has nothing edible. I now bring my own lunch. At least I know what’s in it.
