IH 430 continously tying

Probably something stuck at the knotter itself that keeps the tying mechanism engaged. Carefully disassemble the knotter to see what is going on. Might be something broken but again you will need to start removing parts to know for sure. A diagram will prove useful to see what is not normal at the moment.

The more I think about it a neighbor had one where a spring broke at the knotter drive that kept a clutch dog firm to a cam track.

Well the 430 keeps tying after every slab, even when the trip arm is down. Brakes seem tight, all the springs seem to be working. Any ideas folks?
Trip dog spring in the knotter clutch is most likely tired/stuck/worn/broke/etc. You'll have to pull the knotter rack & see what's going on in there if it doesn't turn out to be something easier.

What did you do to fix it?
I sorta got lucky. Walked the field where it started acting up and found most of the parts - it had imploded. Hard to see what all parts are in there til you start taking the clutch apart. Studied the parts breakdown to figure what was missing. If I remember, I had lost a spring, shaft and the dog, found a handfull of other parts in the field. Reassembled after getting the replacement parts (wasn't real easy if I remember, needed extra hands to hold everything together and put the pivot pin in). And remember to lube it up every time I go to bale now! Have been using a chain/cable spray lube, seems to be working.

Maybe all I needed was a new pivot pin, spring and roll pin that holds the pivot pin in (it had broke), old pin had bent when it came out, rest was found in field. Has been a couple years now. This was on a cih inline baler, 430 is probably a little different parts/same principle.
