IH Rake gear oil

I have a IH-McCormick model 16 side delivery hay rake and I would like to know what oil to use in the gear box. Also, does anyone know where I can purchase an owners manual for this rake? Thanks for any info.

I just change the oil in my IH rake, don't know the model. I used hytran in it. I figure if its good enough for a tractor rear end that it should work well in the rake. Ya I know it probably should be 80W-90 or 80W-140 but what the heck its what I have on hand

Don't really mather like old said just put something in it and don't run it dry.

On my new holland rake I have to run gun grease cause the seals won't hold.

Had gun grease for 10 years now and works fine.

I'm with IaGary. My IH35 seals don't hold here. Someone told me to use cornhead grease. Says it softens up real good when working, then hardens when the rake is resting. Good Stuff
