In need of help!!!

I am in the process of taking off the fron axle cradle of my TO-20. It is in need of a new axle pivot pin and bushings, but I can not find a good way of holding the tractor up so I can be able to work on it. I am afraid to put something under the oil pan but not sure where to put something at.. In need of some ideas of a good way to hold the tracotr up while I am waiting for parts to arrive while I have the front axle tore off of it...

Not sure on the TO20 oil pan - the TEA20 is very strong cast aluminum - but you can also jack the tractor under the clutch bell housing. That will hold without causing damage.

Keith, use a jack stand under the bell housing. It won't hurt the engine block to be left "hanging" over the jack stand.

Do you have a cast pan or a stamped pan? In either case,you can jack it under the oil pan. Just use a block of wood between the jack and the pan. Chock the back wheels or put it in gear to prevent it from rolling back.

Use the jack under the Clutch housing, the Oil Pan on a TO is not strong enough to do that. No need to completely remove the axle to do that work, just jack it up enough to take the weight,put something between the jack and the clutch housing to spread the load, remove the Hood and the radiator, remove the pin through the axle and then drop the back end down a little so that you can get at the Bush in the axle. Make sure that the Radius rods are straight and that you tighten the bolts through the Radius Rods and the Axle outer beams when the wheels are back on the ground. If the radius rods are bent it will make the steering heavy and it will wobble if you try to go fast....John

Leaving the transmission housing on a jackstand isn't the best in my opinion....because one careless bunp and it could fall and damage something expensive. You buy those jackstands in pairs so why not put one on each side of the transmission housing and a heavy bar between them to rest the tractor on. Just one stand is kinda flimsy as I watched some friends stand theres on one the other day. He was just here and I had suggested the same thing to him and he said that's what they did. He has a 9N Ford with #3and4 rod bearing bad. I loaned him the porto-power with the hollow jack, the piece of 4/5" pipe and 3/4" all-thread to pull the sleeves with. He's rebuilding the engine and the fellow that sold him the parts said thats the first cam he'd sold in 20 years. I would just rebuilt the crank, cyls. and sleeves and bearings and oil pump but he's young and so I passed on telling him that ohfred

I bought a motorcycle/ATV jack that I use anytime I need to lift and hold the front of my 30. It cradles the bellhousing and is stable. If I were planning to get under the machine I would add jack stands. As John(UK) suggested, you may not have to actually remove the bolster (and the radiator, etc.) unless it needs some repair such as welding or straightening.

I appreciate all yor guys' inpot, I have already considered putting a pair of jack stand, one on each side with a piece of metal flatstock, but I was unsure as to the strength of the clutch housing. After hearing from all of you fellas it sounds like it is strong enough to withstand the weight. the reason I am in need of taking off the whole front cradle is because I suppose the prior owner had lost the pivot pin bolt and they have just welded a piece of metal across the cradle to hold the pivot pin in place. I am going to replace the pivot pin and bushing so I thought that I might as well get a new bolt for it while I have it all tore apart.. Thanks again for the help!!!!!
