I am replacing the core of my 39 B radiator. I was thinking of using permatex on the gaskets but am unsure about using non hardening or hardening or something else. Thanks in advance for your help.

i use permatex high tack sealer on all my gaskets including head gaskets for over 50 years already. and yes on rad gaskets too. best stuff out there. u definitely dont want that hard cement stuff.

I may be the odd one, but on things that aren't pressurized, I slather grease on my gaskets. They come apart easy, but still hold back water and oil. Have done multiple tractors this way and no issue. Now between metal shims I'll use spray tack sealant, but iron to metal or iron to iron, it's grease on the gasket.
