M Hitch and hydraulics

I purchased a Saginaw 3 pt. hitch after reading everyones rave reviews on them. It's on its way as i'm writing this.
As I said here before, I just purchased this M. It has one hydraulic line running from the right side of the motor, back to just behind the seat. On the left side, there are 2 elbows that appear to be for additional hydraulic lines. Does this sound like a correct setup? If I only want to lift (no down pressure) the one line will suffice and I just take a line from one ram to the other? If I want down pressure also, I'll need to run an additional line from the hydraulics at the two elbows?
Pardon my ignorance, this is all new to me. Maybe when the hitch arrives there will be some instruction but the fellow on the phone at Saginaw was very helpful too. Thanks

You'll have to change those cylinders over to "one-way" if you leave the tractor alone.

If you want two way action on the lift, you'll have to plumb in a second open-centered control valve on the tractor and wire back the original tractor's control rod so it throws pressure all the time.

Clear as mud? :>)

By the way, those 3 outlets on your tractor are all plumbed to the same oil pressure source.

Folks will try and tell you that the left one pointing backwards has a delay feature to it. This is not the case; all are the same.

Your M does not have 2 way hydraulics. The system you have will provide for lift only. You can attach hoses to any of those ports, on either side of the M, and still have lift only. If you want 2 way to provide for down pressure, you will need to add some more equipment.

The back port on the left side is delayed. So use the front port to the left cycl and the port on the right side to the other cycl or just tee from one cycl to the other and then just use one outlet on the hy system.

Simply buy a double action control valve and mount it on the tractor. They are relatively inexpensive.Run one of your tractor pump lines to it as a source. Then simply hook up your lines to both sides of the valve. This will give you double action. I run mine off of the pump. They are double action cylinders and gravity takes them down. How often do you think you will actually ever need double action. I also installed a valve so that I can run a remote line if needed.

Yes John Deere made an M but it is a really small tractor and I don't think Saginaw makes a 3 pt for it. Also "Farmall" is not a company. The company that made the Farmall M is International Harvestor.

If the HYD. pump is mounted in front of the distributor and driven off timing gears it should be live with down pressure. On the side of the tractor they would not be live hydralics and would not work with clutch pushed in.

Of the 3 Ms I have, two 41s and 1 40, if I plumb the 3 pt on the rear port, it raises slower than the other two. But it does raise at the same time. Now if this is "delay", then yes they do have it, at least my 3 do.

Gene, I have three Farmalls with the lift-all and none of them have a delay when lifting. I do however have a delay lift valve that goes in the hydraulic line itself to delay lifting of the rear section of my cultivator. It works like a charm. I have hooked it up without the delay valve just to test it out and all three sections raised at the same time. I also have a drop retarding valve that hooks to the line as well.

You can still get Farmall parts to. Every part of A,B,C,H,M and more can still be bought new except for castings. I bet you can't get new JD castings either for those old ones. I get mine from an IH dealor that has been in business for more than 50 years. He just put up a new sign after the merger.
