I have a 1961 MF65 Utility with a Perkins A4.203 (Regular Diesel) engine.
The previous owner let it sit for a few years, I bought it & after having the injector pump rebuilt by (the excellent) DieselTech it's up, running & moving buckets of dirt.
I changed the oil & put a Shell Diesel 10W30 in it.
[b:58f62c7752]The oil pressure is great at startup[/b:58f62c7752]
[b:58f62c7752]Until the engine reaches 200f (indicated) after about 17 mins.
Then it drops to about 1/3rd (still in green)[/b:58f62c7752]
[b:58f62c7752]After 22 mins, the pressure is touching the white line between normal & low.[/b:58f62c7752]
[b:58f62c7752]If I raise the revs a few clicks, it goes back into the green[/b:58f62c7752]
After another 20 mins or so I may have to raise the throttle another click or two, but I seems to run ok like this for an hour or more.
My first thought was main bearings, and I do plan to rebuild this engine in the winter when there is too much snow to use it, but until then I would like it to limp along...
I know a bit about cars, but old tractors are new to me.
[b:58f62c7752][list:58f62c7752]Is it worth trying a heavier oil? Say 15W40? or would a straight 30SAE weight be better?
I noticed there is old oil seepage in the gauge, so will replace, but is this likely to be a gauge fault?
I am guessing oil pump is also contender.
Any thoughts on how to narrow this down without pulling the sump?[/list:u:58f62c7752][/b:58f62c7752]
All advice gratefully received
Nick
(P.S. Sorry the rev counter is broken in the photos, I realize it would be useful info. I did buy a new gauge & cable, but the old cable is still snapped off in the unit that attaches to the block, so I still need to get that part off & extract it somehow)
