I need to do a little service work to my MF50
diesel and have a few questions.
1. I am almost 99% sure my tractor has the AD-152
Perkins in it (vs the AD3-152, which I think some
later year model 50's may have had). Can anyone
confirm my tractor has the AD-152 engine? Based
on S/N (532855), I believe mine is a 1962 make -
52 years old and hardly broken-in... ;-)
2. I asked the above because I need a valve cover
gasket for the engine. The guy that replaced my
head gasket didn't warm-up the engine and re-
torque the head, so I'm going to do it. The valve
cover gasket is a part numbers based on A3-152 vs
AD3-152. Anyone know if NAPA carries cross
referenced Perkins/MF gaskets?
3. Hydro oil. For years I've been using the
MF1103 90wt oil. I believe it's 100% mineral oil,
but last time out at the MF dealer, the price was
crazy high. Tractor Supply carries 100% mineral
oil in their Traveller® Ford Tractor All Mineral
90 Transmission Fluid, 2 gal. About $17 for a 2
gal jug. Any reason I shouldn't use that - is
100% mineral oil just that, regardless of brand?

Finally - I can't explain it, but even though I
bought a new JD tractor, I still like this MF50.
Such a nice machine all-round. I've had it for
over 10 years, take care of it, but run it hard.
Should I back-off now that I have a new tractor?
I still like using this one, it's handy, but I
need to make hay with it (cutting, raking and
square baling) and some heavy brush hogging chores
too. What do you think - pedal to the metal (with
care) and run it until something breaks (and of
course fix again) or lighten-up? Anyone still
using their MF50 diesel or 135 diesel with the
Perkins engine hard, all day long - just like it
was a new tractor? My MF50 sure takes a likin'
and keeps on tickin'
