Lately, when I post a pic, I just am having to sift thru too many negative comments. seems like each thread is getting mired in them now.. I just simply didn't want to participate in that...
Like all of you who have just responded.. many of us like to see others pis to give us ideas of what to do ( or not?

)and in general.. just share.. not for a grade or a compliment.. but just for exhibition sake.
For instance.. I like to see a rusty greasy old tractor in work clothes JUST as much as a shiney one that is probably worth 10000$ of invested time and money... truthfully.. I'm kind of partial tot he 'working clothes' refurbs myself.. I like to see these old gals working. ).. It's always a killjoy to see the one poster step into the thread and run the negative comment out. And I'm surely not just refering to my threads. I'm seeing it more and more.. there's usually one in the crowd that has a lame comment to add.
the joy in working with or on these old machines .is.. to me anyway.. just that. working on them.. or working with them.
It's neat that we can pull a 50-60 yr old machine into our garage and whip out some common hand tools and bang thes eold beauties back to life.
some of our repairs, mine at the top of the list, are not profesional repairs. anything from hack and slash last minute farmengineering, to the real good elegent fixes by those equipped to do so.. or even the 'fix by replacement' type jobs. They all have their place.
The last comment on the series of pics I posted just rubbed me the wrong way.
the comment about me getting my welds checked by a competent welder..
lets face it. if we all got our work double checked by a profesional in the field.. then all of our tractors might as well go to the dealer any time we do anything on them.
so.. you just replaced the thrust bearings in your steering box? better take it to the dealer to get them checked..
just repalced and/ or repacked your front wheel bearings.. better haul it to the tire store and throw it on the rack..
see my point?
I know there are some repairs that many of us DO farm out. block work for instance or precision machining.. as most of us simply lack the skills or tools to do it.. or do it econmically on a 1-time basis.
as for my welds? they for sure were NOT pretty. and I stated as much.
Normally when I fab I grind all my root passes then do my tie in passes, grind off all the lil pops and pebbles around the work.. spatter and all.. then many times I top cap it with some other rod to make it look nice.. especially when using 6011 for penetration and strength.
this job? I didn't feel the need to spend another 5# of rod and grinder wheels and another week of work for the 'lipstick' factor.
the welds are what they are. I'm not a pro welder.. .. heck.. I don't call myself a welder.. I OWN a welder. that said.. I make some pretty good welds when it comes to strength. not always pretty.. but strong. My 15' batwing mower that dropped a wing when the hinge broke, and subsequently got jacked and braced and welded back on and works every summer is a testiment to that.
It just hit me wrong.. not to mention the poster didn't even have the guts to register a name and instead was just a guest.
I've seen it in other people's threads as well.
pot shots from the peanut gallery.
just gets tedius to put up with... I was thinking of avoiding the game with the no posting idea... though I do appreciate the comments and fresh perspectives and points of view.
