NH 460 MOCO problems

Before you say it yes I know I need to get the manual. I have had this for over 10 years and up till today only had small easy to fix problems. Well today the ratchet drive for the rollers/crimper stopped working. S does some one maybe have a brake down/picture of it so maybe I will have a clue as to what maybe wrong. Ya will call the dealer tomorrow to see about a manual but that does not help me now and I have hay that needs cut and would prefer not to have to use the BA Farmall I built this last fall to do it

Is that the rachet that is behind the gearbox. I have a 477 Nh and it was bad and I tack welded it in a few different places and went to mowing hay. They say that over running cluch was put on there for tractors that did not have live PTO.

Yep that is the problem part on mine. I had thought about doing that but was not sure if it would work or not. I pull it behind an Oliver 77 so the PTO is not going to be a problem since it is independent type of PTO

The other guy said he tack welded his ratchet drive so I wonder if doing that on my 460 would work or if it would cause bigger problems. I am going to check what it will take to fix but from what I can see to do it will be a pain. Oh by the way I do pull this machine with a tractor with live PTO

Ramps are probably worn on the ratchet clutch. I've replaced mine twice over the years. Also the holes that the drive pins are in become oblonged. Not to bad to take apart. Pull the tire and outer plate off. Remove the drive shaft. Pull the bearing and lock collar off the inside by the rolls. Remove bolts from the bottom of the gear box and slide everything out. I had to get used parts, they were obselete from NH.

If the parts can not be had then sounds like this is going to be one of those fixes that is done to make it work and that is about it. I have looked in my area for years for a parts machine like this old 460 and have yet to find one. I did notice today that the inner bearing is going bad so I will replace it and see if maybe that will help

Check to see if the spring loaded pins that drive the over running clutch are coming out to dog the drive plate. There is a little hole at the back of wheel where the pins are. Spray some penetrating oil in there and use a little punch to push them out. I've seen them stick in at the first of the year. You might be luckie. 461's had the removable plate over the left wheel, 460's didn't. Good luck.....Ron
